The Ancient Poltergeist (known as Boffin Elder in PAL regions) is a variant of the Poltergeist and a mini-boss in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
Appearance
The Ancient Poltergeist resembles regular Poltergeists, except the Ancient Poltergeist is blue, sharing the same pallette as Hiders, and has a deep sky blue brain.
History
After exploring the Tomb, Luigi finds the minute hand for the clock in the Clock Tower Gate, only to have it being taken away by the Ancient Poltergeist. After defeating him in the next mission, Luigi gets the minute hand back.
Before the battle, the Poltergeist can be heard making an annoying sound throughout the Roundhouse. He is also seen toying with the minute hand.
Behavior
The Ancient Poltergeist has similar attacks to a normal Poltergeist. He can use his telekinetic powers to launch bricks at Luigi before or while being captured, which also protects him from the Strobulb.
Once Luigi drains around 30 HP of his health, the Ancient Poltergeist will hide in the turntable below and create a large tornado that has significant pull force and will damage Luigi greatly if he is pulled in. His other attack is to rotate the central platform of the arena to scatter exploding bombs from the surrounding boxes around the area. He uses his other attack as a recovery from being vaccumed.
The Ancient Poltergeist will also summon Sneakers to prevent Luigi from capturing him.

Trivia
- The Ancient Poltergeist was never seen nor mentioned before the game's release.
- He is also the only sub-boss to not use the mini-boss battle theme, and instead uses one of the three ghost themes played in the Old Clockworks.
