Boos are a recurring species of ghost that appear in all three Luigi's Mansion games that take the form of a secret, extra collectible that's only necessary to 100% complete the game with the exception of the original Luigi's Mansion and the 3DS version, where they are needed to unlock certain rooms.
Boos debut at different times throughout the three games, but in all of them they remain hidden in rooms, missions and floors and are only able to be caught after the player has already progressed through the area. Their HP varies with each game, with the Boos in Luigi's Mansion and Luigi's Mansion (3DS) having from 30-300 HP (Including Boolossus), Boos in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon ranging from 15-40 HP and Boos in Luigi's Mansion 3 having only 20 HP.
Appearance[]
Boos appear as an opaque white, ball-like ghost with a stubby tail, short arms, a wide mouth with a large tongue and teeth and two beady eyes. It's tongue is pink and it's eyes are solid black. It is one of the few ghosts to be opaque in their normal state.
Personality Traits[]
Boos are mischievous, and are shown to enjoy taunting Luigi when he either cannot find or capture them. Their signature sound is their high-pitched laugh, which they will use on Luigi often. They also do not like being directly looked at, but this is not always demonstrated in the Luigi's Mansion games.
In Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon[]
In this game, Boos must be detected using the Dark-Light Device.
In Luigi's Mansion 3[]
Same as in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, Boos in this game require the Dark-Light Device to reveal them. However, in addition to this, Boos can also be detected using vibrations from Gooigi.
Abilities[]
- Boos can turn invisible at will.
- They can hide within objects.
- Boos can summon objects into rooms.

Trivia[]
- Boos originated in Super Mario Bros 3.
- They were originally known as "Boo Diddleys".
- All their names are puns, usually related to their surroundings.
- Some, like Bootine, are meta-references. "Bootine" is a play on poutine, a popular dish in Canada. Next Level Games, who developed Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, are a Canadian developer.
