The Bowser Costume is a lifelike costume based on Mario's archenemy, Bowser. The puppet was created by King Boo to use against Luigi at the end of Luigi's Mansion.
History
Possibly before the events of the game, the real Bowser was defeated and seemingly "killed" by Mario, explaining his absence. Madame Clairvoya foresees this and is shocked, believing King Boo revived him. When Luigi confronts King Boo at the Secret Altar, the latter jumps into the Mario painting. Mario then suddenly turns into Bowser, who inhales Luigi and takes him into an arena resembling the mansion's Roof. After Luigi defeats King Boo, the Bowser costume collapses lifelessly on the floor, and it later materializes into a painting along with King Boo.
Before the events of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, King Boo escapes his painting, leaving the Bowser costume behind.
Battle strategies
The Bowser costume attacks Luigi by breathing fire on him (similar to the real Bowser), inhaling him into his mouth, and creating explosive spikes and throwing them at him. To stun it and reveal King Boo, Luigi must use the Poltergust 3000 to vacuum up the explosives and shoot them at it, blowing the head off and revealing King Boo. As Luigi starts sucking King Boo and depleting his 500 Health Points (750 Health Points in the remake), the puppet's now-disembodied head shoots ice and fire on the green-clad plumber before reattaching it's head into the body and resuming the fight. Luigi must repeat the process to fully deplete King Boo's HP, and once the head reattaches itself after King Boo's HP is less than 200, it will accidentally reattach from the other side, causing it to run around aimlessly and destroying anything in its path before realigning it's head.

Trivia
- The painting with King Boo and his Bowser costume makes a cameo in the Luigi's Mansion race track in Mario Kart DS. However, only the costume can be seen in the painting, which implies King Boo escaped it.
- The arena resembling the mansion's roof is not labeled on the map, as the edges are engulfed in flames.
- Some fans theorise that the Bowser puppet wasn't created by King Boo, but is actually Mario, who was possibly turned into the costume by King Boo. However, Mario is shown to have fallen asleep during his fight with Luigi.
- The costume is technically Bowser's only appearance in the Luigi's Mansion series, as the costume doesn't appear in any of the following games, nor does anyone even bother mentioning the real Bowser.
