Overview[]
E. Gadd asks Luigi if he is ready to get the Dark Moon piece, but notices that he is not as courageous as he thinks. On the subject of Possessors, E. Gadd says that they showed up after the Dark Moon broke, and says that they are the smartest and most powerful ghosts in Evershade Valley, which makes sense that the mysterious villain chose them to guard the Dark Moon pieces. After the conversation ends, E. Gadd pixelates Luigi on the other side of the Workshop Landing.

The Shrewd Possessor possessing the frozen ground, becoming a large, icy monster.
After being pixelated, Luigi must enter the Workshop. If he peers in the window, he notices the Shrewd Possessor is not in the Workshop. Nevertheless, once Luigi enters, the Shrewd Possessor scares Luigi, and dives into the frozen ground, transforming into a icy monster and tunnelling down through the Secret Mine. Luigi is then pushed onto a bomb sled, and the battle commences.
Boss battle[]
The Shrewd Possessor generates ice shields protecting his face, so Luigi needs to use the bombs to destroy all of them, and the bomb sled is controlled by the Nintendo 3DS's motion controls or the Circle Pad. With each piece destroyed, the Shrewd Possessor tunnels farther down, making timing an important factor. Take note that in each phase, the bomb sled is slowly overheating, and if the sled severely overheats and starts to smoke for too long, it causes a instant Game Over. Once a shield is destroyed, Luigi will have 50 seconds to destroy the other shields or else the Shrewd Possessor regenerates them all. The Shrewd Possessor has eight ice shields, but gains an additional shield after each phase and also gets progressively faster. Once all shields have been destroyed, the Shrewd Possessor opens his mouth and tries to eat Luigi, and if successful, the bomb sled will take a heavy amount of damage, so Luigi needs to fire a bomb into his mouth. If successful, his eyes will glow red and the icy monster is destroyed.
After the icy monster is destroyed, the Shrewd Possessor charges through 3 portals before ramming into a wall. Luigi should flash him before he can either charge through portals again or return to the ice. In later phases, parts of the ground will be covered in ice, making it harder to maneuver through. Once the Shrewd Possessor is captured for good, Luigi can collect the fifth Dark Moon piece.
After being pixelated back to the Bunker, E. Gadd has worried that Luigi had gone too deep into the mountain for the Pixelator to bring him back. Regardless, Luigi has captured the Shrewd Possessor and cleans up the fifth Dark Moon piece, revealing the final mansion of the game, the Treacherous Mansion.
Strategies and tips[]
- When dealing with the Shrewd Possessor in his icy monster form, use the bombs to destroy the center shields first, as the Shrewd Possessor tunnels farther down with each shield destroyed. Also, destroy the shields quickly before the Shrewd Possessor regenerates his shields or the bomb sled overheats for too long.
- Once all shields are destroyed, wait until Luigi gets close, but not too close, to be able to fire a bomb accurately in his mouth.
- When dealing with the Shrewd Possessor in his normal state, quickly flash and vacuum him before he can charge and teleport through portals.
- However, should Luigi react too late, simply pay attention to which portals the Shrewd Possessor will come from, and in the later segments, as the ground gets icy, try to stay on the snow as much as possible to keep traction.

Trivia[]
- After destroying the Shrewd Possessor's icy monster form for the second and third times, the cutscene shows the Shrewd Possessor as white, even though he should be colored orange and red respectively.
- Because Luigi went too deep into the mountain, E. Gadd calls with severe interference.
