A Curse is a game mechanic which appears in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon's ScareScraper mode. If a player is affected by a curse, some of their controls will be inverted.
Appearance[]
A curse appears to be a brown-green gas, which spreads a shorts distance in the room. The gas will produce skull particles if released.
Obtaining Methods[]
A curse can be released by checking certain furniture, such as pots with plants in them. Walking into the curse will cause players to be cursed, and their respective Luigi will play a coughing animation. If a cursed player walks into another player without a curse, they will obtain the curse as well.
Effects[]
Curses cause the player's movement controls to be reversed (i.e., if a cursed player moves their control stick upward, their respective Luigi will move downward instead.) Upon the curse, players will drop temporary upgrades such as the Dark-Light Goggles on the ground. These can be picked up by other players, however not by the initially cursed player. A notification will appear on all other player's screens stating, "A team member has been CURSED!"(dark moon) when a player gets cursed. Cursed players have a flashing skull icon in the same color of the gas itself floating above their head, as well as producing the gas behind them.
Methods of Lifting the Curse[]
Curses can be lifted if a player uses the Dark-Light Device on a cursed player long enough. If a curse is removed with this method, another notification will appear stating "Curse has been lifted!". Curses are also removed when a cursed player faints, but if done using this method, no notification will appear. If players fail to remove curses manually, the curse will automatically be lifted once the Red Coin Scramble event ends and will not be carried into the next round.
