Elevator Buttons are a special collectible found in Luigi's Mansion 3. They are used to progress to different floors throughout The Last Resort. There are a total of 17 elevator buttons, one for each floor in the hotel.
Luigi has to fight the boss ghosts and access all the floors one-by-one all the way to the hotel's top floor, Hellen Gravely, and King Boo.
They behave in an identical manner to the shattered and corrupted Dark Moon pieces from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, given the identical animations when capturing a boss ghost that has one, as well as the fact that they are needed to access new parts of Evershade Valley and The Last Resort respectively.
Obtainment[]
Elevator Buttons are carried by the boss ghost for each floor. Most are collected when the respective boss ghost for the floor are defeated, but there are a few exceptions:
- Morty is not the boss ghost for 8F - Paranormal Productions, despite being the main ghost and holding a button.
- 7F - Garden Suites and 14F - The Dance Hall have the button standing in the open, only for Luigi to lose it and have it fall in the hands of the main ghosts for those floors. The player still has to fight them.
- Hellen Gravely doesn't have any elevator button in her possession, as she resides on the top floor and there are no other floors that are available from the elevator.
The Buttons are obtained in this order:
- B1 - Basement's button is already inside the elevator.
- 1F - Grand Lobby and 5F - RIP Suites are unlocked upon defeating Steward.*
- 3F - Hotel Shops is unlocked upon defeating Chambrea.
- 2F - Mezzanine is unlocked upon defeating Kruller.**
- 4F - The Great Stage is unlocked upon defeating Chef Soulfflé, but the button is stolen by a Mouse.
- 6F - Castle MacFrights is unlocked upon defeating Amadeus Wolfgeist.
- 7F - Garden Suites is unlocked upon defeating King MacFrights.
- 8F - Paranormal Productions is unlocked upon defeating Dr. Potter.
- 9F - Unnatural History Museum is unlocked after Morty is satisfied and gives the button to Luigi, but it is stolen by Polterkitty.
- B2 - Boilerworks Is unlocked after defeating Ug and given to Luigi by a Toad.
- 10F - Tomb Suites is unlocked after defeating Clem.
- 11F - Twisted Suites is unlocked after defeating Serpci.
- 12F - The Spectral Catch is unlocked after defeating Nikki, Lindsey, and Ginny.
- 13F - Fitness Center is unlocked upon defeating Captain Fishhook.
- 14F - The Dance Hall is unlocked upon defeating Johnny Deepend, but the button is also stolen by Polterkitty.
- 15F - Master Suite is unlocked upon defeating DJ Phantasmagloria.
- 1F is already available by stairs from the Basement, but it is likely obtained for both completion and ease of use.
- 2F is already available from 1F, but when Luigi goes to the 2F elevator Polterpup is shown to unblock the Wet Floor Sign, allowing Luigi to access the east side. He can also unblock it from the west side once able to enter. Luigi technically can still enter the east side without Polterpup's health and before Kruller is beaten, but Chef Soulfflé will not spawn.
4F's button is eaten up by a mouse and needs to be chased down. However, this is different from the Polterkitty encounters as it is stolen when Luigi tries to grab it compared to being stolen after being put in the elevator.
When a boss ghost's defeating animation is over, the Poltergust will emit a yellow glow from inside and then launch out the button, which was apparently causing the glow. The glow will soon fade into a softer glow when landing and then when luigi grabs it he enters a short cutscene. In Chambrea's cutscene, Luigi instead collects the briefcase and then the Button just rolls out of the Poltergust G-00. Luigi always celebrates by holding the button up.
Polterkitty[]
- Main article: Polterkitty
Polterkitty is Hellen Gravely's pet cat and appears twice in game, just before Luigi puts a button in the elevator, and steals the elevator button forcing Luigi to track her down multiple floors and multiple areas. She steals the buttons to 9F - Unnatural History Museum and 14F - The Dance Hall, and then retreats to lower floors. For the 9F button, she only retreats one floor from 8F - Paranormal Productions down to 7F - Garden Suites. For the 14F button, she retreats 2 floors, from 13F - Fitness Center, to 12F - The Spectral Catch and then 11F - Twisted Suites.
When defeated the first time in 7F, Polterkitty will jump up onto a thick branch and then cough out the button, then jumping out of a window and presumably climbing back to 15F - Master Suite. When defeated the second time, she will try to escape, but then be vacuumed up. After that, like all other bosses, the Button will launch out.
Trivia[]
- Everytime Luigi inserts a button, he puts it near the interface but to his surprise, the button slips out of his hand magnetically and goes right to the proper slot and screws itself in.
- This does have a small exception for the first times of the 9F - Unnatural History Museum and 14F - The Dance Hall floors, where the Polterkitty chases ensue. However, Luigi then inserts it the second time and the cutscene plays as normal.
- Steward is the only ghost boss to carry two elevator buttons.
- B1 - Basement is the only floor to have its button already installed and not taken.
- 1F - Grand Lobby and 15F - Master Suite are the only floors not to gain a button from.
