The Spectral Catch is the 12th floor of Luigi's Mansion 3, unlocked by beating Nikki, Lindsey, and Ginny. The boss fought here is Captain Fishook. It is seemingly a pirate-themed restaurant with a large outside segment, like most cafés. However, this one is very large. The layout is probably one of the most simple of all the floors. There is a elevator hall that turns west, then northwards there is a door to the pirate grotto. Continuing north there is a huge beach, accompanied by an even larger ocean.

During the events of this floor, it is required for Luigi to return to B2 - Boilerworks for a return mission, in order to to obtain a special item that allows you to proceed. This is also one of the three floors where a Toad is rescued, with this being the final Toad. Hellen Gravely's mid-cutscene that takes place upon sending a Toad down the elevator is also much longer than the other two, as King Boo appears as well and is disappointed with how she has done.

Appearance[]

With a swashbuckle aesthetic running all the way through, this floor is mostly a large dining area, with the elevator hall being a small bar, the Grotto Lounge a large sitter dining room, and the beach an outdoor diner aboard a pirate ship. The elevator hall is a standard linear room leading to the other rooms. There is paintings of islands and pirate monsters framed, and a large ship blocking the door to the Grotto Lounge, which Luigi needs the special addition to the Poltergust G-00 to destroy in the Boilerworks. The Grotto Lounge is a large restaurant situated in a giant carved out cave, which there is many waterfalls flowing through. The Beach is where the ship is located on the water. The room is an enormous dome with a painted background to give the illusion it is outside.

It's named after two possible things. One could be the restaurant, as "The Spectral Catch" could be alluding to the fish caught for the food, or two, the pirate ship is named The Spectral Catch, as most ships do, and are named.

Boo Location[]

Boocaneer is located here. He first is located in the beach, inside one of the barrels on the left side. However, if not found, he could be found in the other rooms or elsewhere on the beach. Like all Boos, he creates fog during his battle and can do things other Boos can do, such as spawning bombs, or teleporting away.

Walkthrough[]

Getting the Button[]

When Luigi first enters the floor, he has to head to the west and to the Pirate Grotto. However, he discovers that the way there is blocked by what seems to be half of a ship. When Luigi tries to break it and fails, Luigi gets a call from E. Gadd and says he sent a toad to get a part that will help. Going to the lab, Luigi discovers that on his body camera he was ambushed and was forced to run and hide. Luigi then heads to B2 - Boilerworks to rescue him.

Once he finishes that and gets the part, he then returns to the ship and discovers a large plug with sparks coming out of it. Luigi then interacts and a large stream of electricity heads over to the Poltergust and Luigi's Suction is dramatically increased. He sucks up the entire ship until the double doors are fully revealed and then cuts off the power. He then enters the Pirate grotto and travels through it.

Heading to the Beach, Luigi goes to the deck and starts ringing the bell with the poltergust. Luigi looks around and then squints at a ship in the distance. It then retreats into the fog and reappears right in front of Luigi. A ramp starts appearing and lands almost on top of Luigi. Boarding it, he looks around but sees nothing. Unbeknownst to Luigi, Captain Fishook is traveling right onto the ship and tries to chomp at Luigi. The battle between the two ensues.

Once he is defeated, the button launches out. After grabbing it, Polterpup appears and knocks down a ladder. Climbing up it, the toad is at the top of a cannon. After shining the Dark-Light Device on the painting, Toad slides down and then is launched into Luigi's arms, happy at the sight. When the two exit, Hellen Gravely is shown to be incredibly mad watching them. King Boo then startles her and is disappointed, grabbing Princess Peach's painting and bringing it up to the Rooftop. Hellen Gravely then becomes infuriated.

Post-Story[]

The post story mainly is part of the second Polterkitty encounter. Once Polterkitty is defeated in 13F - Fitness Center, she heads down to this floor. Luigi must track her down and ultimately find her in the beach. After being ambushed by two snakes with a shark ghost nearby, Luigi must vacuum the sand somewhat close to the door until you can see her tail sticking out. Then vacuum the whole spot until she jumps out and flash her. Defeat her like other times in her angry form and she will run into the grotto. Chase after her while she goes on top of the wires until she ultimately jumps into the floor and heads into 11F - Twisted Suites.

After that, occasionally large amounts of ghosts will gather on the pirate ship. These are goobs, hammers, oozers, and slinkers. Paranormal Gates will close off escaping the ship. After the first wave is defeated even more ghosts will come as reinforcements to try and defeat Luigi. Of all the returning ghost sets, this is the hardest set of them all.

Bonus Unlockables[]

Shot Down The Moon

Toad just before hitting the moon and knocking it down.

Achievement[]

The achievement for this floor can only be unlocked once Captain Fishook is beaten. Using either Toad or a supplied coconut, load him in the cannon and then fire him. Toad or the coconut will go flying off into the distance and then hit the moon, knocking it off and revealing a brick wall, that seemingly was painted over for the rest of the sky.

Gems[]

Each floor of the hotel will have 6 different gems of several colors. All the gems in the hotel will have a distinctive shape depending on the floor they are located. The ones in The Spectral Catch will be shaped like skulls with crossbones, similar to the ones used in pirate flags.

White Gem[]

At the west from the entrance in the Grotto Lounge, the player will see that the white gem is stuck on the teeth of a skull that is connected to a pulley. The pulley itself connects to a crate where the crate has a handle for it.

This device is unfinished, and needs the use of the Dark-Light Device to reveal a flag and a rope in it. Pulling the rope raises the flag and makes the gem come out of the skull's mouth.

Red Gem[]

At the west area of the Beach, the player will see a statue of a Mermaid Goob in the sea. Luigi must throw coconuts at it three times using the Poltergust G-00. They can be found in the various palm trees of the Beach.

The first shot will cause the statue's tail to break and the neck to bend. The second shoot will knock the head off, revealing the left arm, which now comically appears to replace the head. And finally, the third hit will make the upper body break off and fall into the water, revealing a Gem Goob inside.

Blue Gem[]

After using the Super Suction on the carpet in front of the gate to the Grotto Lounge of the Elevator Hall, it will reveals a red dotted line leading to an X, similar to those found in treasure maps.

Luigi just needs to stand on top of the X and use the Burst to reveal the gem.

Purple Gem[]

The Purple and Green Gems share routes with one another.

If the player continue walking to the right of the Beach they will find another area beyond the one shown on screen, but strangely, it will seem that there is nothing there. That's because there is a bridge on the east side that must be recreated using the Dark-Light Device.

This bridge will lead to a small island where the player can see another larger island to the north, where the green gem will be hidden, but the purple one is hidden in the island where Luigi is now, and must be digged out using the Poltergust G-00.

Green Gem[]

The Purple and Green Gems share routes with one another. It is recommended to see the route of the purple gem before looking for the green one.

To get to the north island from where the purple gem is located, Luigi must use the Dark-Light Device to find yet another bridge that goes to it.

There will be a buried chest at the back that can be pulled out with the Poltergust G-00.

Yellow Gem[]

Luigi needs to use the Super Suction of the Elevator Hall in the left wall to destroy the barrels and the wall itself, revealing a grate that Gooigi can use to get behind the desk.

Once there, it will be possible to grab the golden terrestrial globe with the Poltergust G-00, and when the player has managed to grab it, they can throw it to the other side where Luigi is.

Now that Luigi has it, he can take it to the east end of the room, and launch it at the hanging green ball on the far right. All orbs are breakable, but this one contains the gem.

Trivia[]

  • The Spectral Catch is one of the floors with least amount of rooms, being 3.
  • The Spectral Catch's Beach is also one of the largest rooms, able to encompass the entirety of some of the smaller floors. However, in practicality it is quite small due to the fact that not much of it is even available to Luigi, due to the ocean being inaccessible.
  • Because of the achievement, it could be assumed that the hole in the moon was actually some sort of screw or mechanism that held it up and that Toad hitting it dislodged it followed by the moon falling off.
  • The Pirate Grotto seems to be the actual restaurant, which the circular table being where the chefs cook, with the ship and Beach itself being an outside dining place.
  • The white gem falling while the pirate flag rises could be a reference to the Super Mario Bros.' flagpoles.
  • It is unknown if this is a VIP restaurant not available to everyone compared to 2F - Mezzanine's restaurant or if it's up to preference.
