Luigi's Mansion Wiki

The Gamecube Controller is a controller for the Gamecube. The controller is the best controller for games like Super Smash Bros. The controller has a history that started in 1999-2000.

"Dolphin" era[]

When the idea of Luigi exploring A "American/European styled mansion" was coming together, they wanted a way to counter the ghosts so they decided to use a vacuum as the main weapon for Luigi. The developers for Luigi's Mansion wanted 2 analog sticks instead of one. They knew that doing this would be tricky at the start, but over time, players will master it once they are far into the game. It didn't gain contention, so they decided to pick a another controller scheme, more simpler. But the dual sticks scheme won and the team decided that 2 analog sticks will be perfect. But when testers for the game founded the C stick too uncomfortable when using it for long time, the developers requested to the people making the Gamecube and controller to fix the C stick to be more "wider and comfortable." So it ended up changing the Gamecube controller itself. The director of Luigi's Mansion said quote

"The game may be a little difficult to control when you start, but it eventually becomes very easy. That was our goal,"

-Hideki Konno (Director of Luigi's Mansion)

Gamecube era[]

The Gamecube controller has many variants of itself like a wireless Gamecube controller. The Gamecube controller was the perfect controller for games like Super Smash Bros Melee.

It was re-released again on the Wii which makes sense because the Wii is backwards compatible with Gamecube games and even has a slot for Gamecube controllers if the game requires it.

Trivia[]

  • The A button were unused, the game was about to finish so the developers need to come up with ideas, until of the devs said that the A button can be used screaming at Mario, the reason is because it will add to Luigi's Personality, which will make him "more afraid and human".
  • The B button was unused as well, so Shigeru Miyamoto decided that the B button can be used to turn off the Flashlight, so when Luigi turns it off, he will turn on the flashlight to stun the ghosts immediately.
