Gloomy Manor is the first mansion that Luigi visits in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. This is where Luigi first obtains the Poltergust 5000, Strobulb, Dark-Light Device, and encounters Greenies, Slammers, Hiders and Poltergeists as enemies. The boss of this mansion is the Grouchy Possessor who takes control of a giant spider queen and holds the second Dark Moon piece.
Appearance[]
The Gloomy Manor is a standard run-of-the-mill haunted house, complete with vintage styled furniture, dusty antiques and peeling wallpaper. It is located on the lowest part of the valley, which is a grassy plain dotted with dead trees. No matter what mission is selected, it is always raining here. Not much is known about the history of the Gloomy Manor, besides that it was abandoned for unknown reasons. The aesthetic style of the manor is likely based on the first game's mansion, as both have a emphasis on European victorian manors. The original owner is unknown, seeing as E. Gadd has now set up operations in the manor, and it is also home to some of his most important inventions. There is even a statue of E. Gadd in the Patio. While it is fairly large, the fact that there's only one bedroom could allude that the owner was a singular person, not a family or party. There are several suits of armour located throughout the house, some of which attack Luigi on contact.
Gloomy Manor more or less serves as the tutorial mansion, as a lot of the tricks, tips and equipment Luigi uses are learnt and obtained here. During the later half of Luigi's time here, a lot of the rooms in the mansion become infested with spiderwebs, as the Spiders from the Cellar have begun to move in and start decorating the place with their sticky webs, some of which even block access to certain areas to Luigi until he has the right methods to burn them down.
History[]
Prior to the Crisis of Evershade Valley[]

A Greenie with E. Gadd.
After hearing about ghosts living all around Evershade Valley in a peaceful and friendly environment thanks to the Dark Moon, E. Gadd took the opportunity to do some research within the Gloomy Manor's Lab.
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon[]

E. Gadd fleeing from the hostile ghosts.
E. Gadd continued with his research and experiments in the Lab with the help of some Greenies. However, when King Boo arrived and shattered the Dark Moon, the ghosts turned on E. Gadd, forcing the professor to retreat to his Bunker. He then calls on Luigi to obtain the Poltergust 5000 and its components, the Strobulb, and the Dark-Light Device.

Luigi then accomplishes many tasks throughout the manor and captures more ghosts for E. Gadd's collection for the Vault. Luigi uses gears to lower the aquarium in the Foyer and access the second floor of the mansion, to confront a Poltergeist emitting powerful paranormal signals via the Library piano. Later on, the manor becomes infested with spider webs, though Luigi soon clears them out. Luigi then heads to the Cellar and encounters the Grouchy Possessor controlling a giant spider for the second Dark Moon piece, allowing him to access the Haunted Towers. However, more ghosts infest the manor again, though they are soon defeated and captured by Luigi.
Luigi's Mansion Arcade[]

The Gloomy Manor in Luigi's Mansion Arcade.
The Gloomy Manor returns in Luigi's Mansion Arcade, and like in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, it is the first. It is the mansion picked for "easy mode". The rooms that Luigi tackles ghosts in are the Entrance, Garage, Foyer, Patio, Kitchen, Parlor, the Dining Room and the Library; however, this the only mansion to allow Luigi to take an alternate path. He can choose to tackle the rooms on the first or second floors.
Luigi will encounter Greenies, Slammers, Hiders and Creepers throughout the mansion, and he'll come face-to-face with The Brain in the Library.

Trivia[]
- There are three fountains located in the manor, in the Patio, Front Yard, and Main Hall. The stone decoration on top seems to be a Cheep Cheep from the mainline Super Mario series.
- According to the layout of the manor and the map, the majority of the mansion is located in the back end, connected by the Guard Hall. Looking at the outside, the front part of the manor has first floor rooms above it, but these technically don't exist in-game. The back section of the manor never appears in exterior shots or offical renders, meaning this was likely an artistic choice.
- This mansions music played as the background for the Nintendo 3DS's eShop during Halloween 2014 in North America
- The music played before the elevator breaks down in Confront the Source is the pause menu music from Mario Strikers Charged, another game developers Next Level Games previously worked on.
- The car that's located in the Garage which contains the Poltergust 5000 is explained to be E. Gadd's own car in Luigi's Mansion 3, as it appears to be the same car. The method that Luigi collects the Poltergust G-00 in the sequel also parodies this scene.
