Golden Goobs are ghosts found in Luigi's Mansion 3. They are rare, golden versions of a Goob hidden in the hotel, similar to a Gold Greenie in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
They will not be shown anywhere in the gallery, and are instead there to reward players that find them with money, there's a special case, however, for those in the Master Bathroom.
Behavior[]
They are occasionally found throughout The Last Resort and will drop a considerable amount of treasure in every slam or when defeated. They are also much more faster than other ghosts.
If Luigi finds one, they will not attack him, instead they will panic and run around the room, trying to escape the Poltergust G-00. If Luigi does not capture them in time, they will escape, preventing their capture. The player will need to restart or close the game before it autosaves to try it again.
Locations[]
There are a total of 30 Golden Goobs in The Last Resort, with each one having 2.5x the HP of a standard one. There is at least one ghost for each floor, although more can be found in a single area. Golden Goobs are also found in the ScareScraper in certain missions.
There's an achievement related to Golden Goobs called "Found the Golden Goobs in the Master Bathroom.", these ones need to be found to complete all achievements in the game.

In a lower room of the Elevator Hall is a hidden yellow pipe that Luigi will have to discover with the Dark-Light Device, positioned besides another red one. Luigi will need the help of the red Toad, shooting him inside to find the Goob in there, this means that once the mission is done, if the ghost has not been found during the time Toad is in your team, It wont be available anymore. |
| B2 - Boilerworks | Drainage Control | Climbing the stairs that lead to the top of the Drainage Control, where the green pipes are located, Luigi will see on the southwest a quite out of place armor resting on the ground, with a broom in its arms as a weapon.
If Luigi moves in front of it, its head will follow him every move. After a burst with the Poltergust G-00, the helmet will open, revealing the face of a Golden Goob inside. |
| B1 - Basement | Garage | In the Garage, the player will need the Dark-Light Device to discover a car in the southeast zone. When completely formed, the Golden Goob will appear. The player can know the exact place looking at the ground. The car will be positioned above two tools that will form an X between two cones. |
| B1 - Basement | Garage | After Luigi returns from his second visit to the Boilerworks, he may find a trail of donuts leading to a box of donuts in the northwest corner of the Garage, which in turn leads to another Golden Goob. |
| 2F - Mezzanine | Dressing Room | All hidden objects will still be visibles in mirrors, so the player must be always paying attention to see the differences shown between those and the reality to discover secrets.
In the Dressing Room, The player can see that strangely, the mirror is reflecting a chair located on the east of the door, even though in the reality there is nothing there. Luigi will need to materialize it with the Dark-Light Device. |
| 3F - Hotel Shops | Elevator Hall | In the end of the Elevator Hall, on the east, Luigi will find a call area with only one phone and a guide in the middle. In the other side of the yellow guide, is a hidden telephone that needs to be revealed with the Dark-Light Device.
Trying to pick up the phone, Luigi will hear nothing on the other side of the line, but when hanging up, it will reveal a Golden Goob inside it. |
| 3F - Hotel Shops | Barber Shop | This is a missable event.
Entering the Barber Shop, Gooigi will see two magical scissors emitting a golden aura while cutting the hair of someone invisible in each chair. By spinning both chairs at the same time in front of the mirrors with the suction function, Gooigi can reveal two Golden Goobs doing their hair. However, if the player has not found them after beating floor 3, they will no longer appear for the remainder of the game. |
| 3F - Hotel Shops | Coffee Shop | By entering the Gift Shop, Gooigi can access the Coffee Shop by a connected entry hidden in the northwest side.
In there, he will find a green fridge, which when opened, he will encounter an unaware gold ghost cooling in it while eating some pastries. |
| 4F - The Great Stage | Dressing Room | After defeating Amadeus Wolfgeist, going to the west side of the stage will reveal a room behind the curtains.
In the Dressing Room, opening the suitcase will reveal the ghost within it. |
| 5F - RIP Suites | Laundry Room | Breaking the vending machine with the help of the Suction Shot, located in the southwest of the Hallway, will reveal a hidden room behind.
Inside the Laundry Room, the player will see a washing machine emitting a golden glow. using the Suction Shot once more, Luigi will open it, revealing the golden ghost. |
| 6F - Castle MacFrights | Front Gate | Just outside the elevator, in the elevator hall that leads to the great gate, is a fireplace, above it are placed two candles and several coins, but in addition, a helmet will also be encountered too.
Luigi can grab the medieval helm with the suction function of the Poltergust G-00 and throw it into the armors with a blow. These ones will break, but the helmet will still be intact no matter how many times we throw it at other objects. The armor in the east side of the elevator will contain a gold ghost inside that will come out when breaking. |
| 6F - Castle MacFrights | Cellar/Stairway | In the Cellar are a row of big barrels. The first one will be closed with a green lid, using the Suction Shot, Luigi can break it.
Inside, the player will find some tomatoes and a sleeping Hammer, in the west of him is a secret door that will lead to a secret entrance to a part of the Stairway, where a chest resides. Luigi just needs to open it. Be careful, if the Hammer wakes and Luigi is under them, they will try to stomp him. |
| 7F - Garden Suites | Mushroom Suite | In the upper part of the Mushroom Suite is a hammock. Moving it with the vacuuming function or flashing it with the Strobulb will make appear the Goob resting in it. |
| 8F - Paranormal Productions | Editing Room | This is a missable event.
Before Director Morty begins to edit the movie starring Luigi, if the player enters this room, they can turn on an animation of a ghost in the monitor, they only need to spin the film reels with the Poltergust G-00. In the cartoon, a Goob will be shown doing a walk animation while getting closer to the screen, when it's close enough, it will end up coming out of the monitor, revealing a golden Goob, which their colors couldn't be recognized at first by the black and white of the monochromatic video. |
| 8F - Paranormal Productions | Studio 2: Castle Set | In the east of the Studio 2, next to the equipment, the player can see a darkened rectangular shape on the wall.
The Dark-Light Device will materialize a circuit break box. Luigi can use the Suction Shoot to open it and let the Goob out. |
| 10F - Tomb Suites | Sandy Great Hall | Vacuuming the sand in the southeast part of the big room will reveal a buried genie lamp. With the suction function, Luigi can make three wishes with it, one for every time vacuumed with the Poltergust G-00.
The first wish will make some Coins appear. The second one Bills and Gold Bars. Finally, the third one will expel the Golden Goob inside the lamp. |
| 10F - Tomb Suites | Jewel Chamber | This ghost will appear while doing trying to obtain the blue gem of the tenth floor.
In the Jewel Chamber, smashing the pot on the west of the statue will reveal a blue cross-shaped puzzle piece. The player needs to bring it back to the entrance of the jewel room to find a cross-shaped hole at the top left of the entrance. Shooting it up will reveal the blue gem behind the wall, but before obtaining it, a mummy will get out of the sarcophagus to scare Luigi. After defeating it, Luigi will discover that it was a disguised Golden Goob and then get the gem. |
| 11F - Twisted Suites | Bladed Bedroom | In the Bladed Bedroom, we can see the classic box for the "Saw in Half" trick.
The saw in it will still be inserted. Our magician Luigi, can split the box in half using the suction and blow of the Poltergust G-00, revealing our two lovely Golden Goob assistants hidden inside for the magic trick. |
| 11F - Twisted Suites | Lounge | When Luigi enters the Stage room, he will see several round tables. The one closest to the stage will be important, which is the one with two drinks (comically, one of them with fake teeth biting the straw), a candle and a menu. Although what really gives it away, is the carpet placed over its base, when all the other tables are on top of it, revealing that this table is glued to the floor.
If the player tries to vacuum everything on it, The menu would be the only item still remaining. Instead of taking it away, the suction will make it begin to spin, revealing a hidden mechanism linked to the lights and spotlights on the stage, which will begin to spin until every one of them points into the center. When this is done, a ghost can be heard subtly. Luigi, tempted by the scene, will take advantage of the situation to get on stage, putting himself under the spotlight to bow to the non-existent audience, only to realize that there really was someone watching him. Two Golden Goobs will appear to applaud him right at the same table that activates the mechanism, just before running away. |
| 11F - Twisted Suites | Laundry Room | In the Laundry room is a dryer, beside them is an invisible washing machine that will be visible once Luigi uses his Dark-Light Device. However, to reach them first, the ironing board must be removed with a burst of the Poltergust G-00.
The player needs to use the Suction Shoot to open it. Inside are a lot of piranhas (That will not hurt Luigi, but will hinder during the capture of the Goob) and the Gold Goob. |
| 11F - Twisted Suites | Suit Bathroom | When Luigi arrives on the floor while chasing after Polterkitty, he can use the Dark-Light to reveal footprints left by Polterpup leading to this room. Polterpup will be standing near the toilet, which will reveal the Golden Goob once Luigi examines it. This Golden Goob does not appear before this event. |
| 12F - The Spectral Catch | Elevator Hall | Just outside the Elevator, in the Elevator Hall, Luigi will see a model of an island surrounded by water. If the player pays attention, they can notice some ripples in the water moving around the island, as if there were some kind of fish underneath.
If Luigi returns to the elevator, he will see in the mirror that these waves are actually being created by an invisible pirate ship. Now that he knows this, he needs to return there and use the Dark-Light Device to materialize it. If the player tries to vacuum the ship for its stolen treasure, this instead will reveal that the pirate ship was actually haunted by a Golden Goob, who will run away terrified for being discovered. |
| 13F - Fitness Center | Training Room | These ghosts will appear while doing the same process to obtain the purple gem of the thirteenth floor.
in the Training Room, Luigi will come across a radio that can be activated and changed of channels if flashed by the strobulb. Curious about the music in it, Luigi will entertain himself changing the channels to listen to all of them, but when he reaches channel 3, several ghosts will begin to be heard panting along with the song. If the player returns to the treadmills and uses the Dark-Light Device, three ghosts will appear training in them, invoked and motivated by the music track. Two of them would be Gold Goobs, but the one in the middle would be a Gem Goob. |
| 13F - Fitness Center | Weight Room | When entering the Weight Room, the player will find a large mirror that occupies the entire front wall. In it, they can see a whole floor located behind the camera's point of view, with different equipment.
If Luigi approaches south from the west area, he will start climbing some hidden stairs, also visible in the mirror, which will lead to this floor. Now that the player has discovered this part of the room, the camera will be repositioned to show it in full view, leaving the opportunity to explore it freely. With the help of the same mirror that has showed us this area, we will see that a chest is missing on the east side of the lift weights. After materializing it with the Dark-Light Device, opening it will reveal some money and a Golden Goob. |
| 13F - Fitness Center | Locker Room | While chasing Polterkitty after finding her in the laundry basket in the Shower Room, Luigi must go to the south entrance of that room and, after entering the Locker Room from that door, follow Polterpup to the right of the room and slam the locker that he is sniffing, which causes two Goobs and a Golden Goob to appear. This has to be done before battling the ghosts in the Weight Room. |
| 15F - Master Suite | Library | In the lower area of the Library is a small side room behind the shelves on the northwest side, where a big cooking book is present. This open book can actually be read, it will show some interesting images printed in every page. Luigi can use the Poltergust G-00 to turn them.
Instead of a recipe, it will tell the story of a Goob that will begin to eat an already finished birthday cake little by little, until nothing is left. On the last page, the empty plate will be shown, with a now gold Goob over it instead of blue. While seeing this strange transformation, a real Golden Goob comes out of the recipe to jump scare Luigi and the player, Throwing several pieces of cake at the same time. |
| 15F - Master Suite | Drawing Room | On the west wall of the Drawing Room, a painting of King Boo next to a mill can be seen, the elices of it will protrude from the frame, These elices can be rotated with the Poltergust G-00.
Doing so will reveal some rotating floors hidden under the room. Depending which way the elices turn (if the player uses the suction or the blow), the room will rotate to one side or another. One of this floors will contain a small model of the Gloomy Manor from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, even with a Dark Moon in the sky. If Luigi approaches it and interacts, the player will be able to observe it more closely. The mansion will have the two middle windows illuminated, as if someone were inside. When interacting with the manor, the camera will gradually approach these windows with an unnerving music, and when it's close enough, a Golden Goob will suddenly jump scare the player. |
| 15F - Master Suite | Master Bathroom | Upon finding the Golden Goobs here, the player will get the "Find the Golden Goobs in the Master Bathroom" achievement.
In the sauna that's inside the Master Bathroom, Luigi will have to collect the bucket of water to throw some on the coals to produce steam. The new evaporated water in the room will reveal two ghosts reading the newspaper while enjoying the sauna. Luigi will have to steal their newspapers before trying to catch the gold Goobs. |
Trivia[]
- The fact that there are two Golden Goobs in the "Saw in Half" box is a reference to the real magic trick. To make the illusion of one person being saw in half, one actor needs to do the upper part of the body, while another person does the legs.
- Golden Goobs are often found in places where people tend to stay still. For example, the master bathroom's sauna, the two haircut chairs in 3F, or the hammock in 3F.
- There are no Golden Goobs in 1F or 14F.
- You can ride it.
