Goobs are standard, blue, medium-sized ghosts that first appear in the Grand Lobby of Luigi's Mansion 3. They are the most common ghosts in the game and the first ones appearing in Luigi's Mansion 3, both in daytime wearing costumes and masks to make Luigi and his friends think they're human, and in nighttime when introducing the ghosts to the player for the first time, seeing them boarding up the front doors to prevent any escape.
They have 100 HP and are usually found with other ghosts, normally encountered in groups of two or more. They can be holding objects or wearing clothing/armor/mummy paper to protect themselves from Luigi's light, such as masks or sunglasses. These objects/clothing can be easily removed with the Poltergust G-00.
Appearance[]
The Goob is a transparent blue ghost with a slim body structure and five fingers in each hand. They are about the same height and general width as Luigi. Their body is seamlessly connected to their tail, and their mouth is non-transparent solid white. They give off a dim blue glow around them.
Behaviors[]
Goobs are pretty mischievous, although they are easy to catch for being the basic ghost of the game, and also vary slow to get away, most of them will try to protect themselves from Luigi's Poltergust to make it harder for them to be trapped, even using weapons against him, and they come in large groups to make it more challenging.
They collect common objects and use them to attack and shield themselves from the flash of light that Luigi gives off. Most of these objects can be removed from their grasps by sucking them up, blasting the ground around them with the Poltergust G-00 or pulling them away with the Suction Shot.
They freeze in place when they get shot with light and will try to run away from the player if they try to suck them up, much like their Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon counterparts, the Greenies.
The end of the game reveals that the Goobs were being brainwashed by King Boo's crown gem, as they and the other ghosts quickly regain their senses and become friendly once the gem vanishes from Luigi's hands. At the ending of the game, Goobs are seen working with the protagonists to rebuild the fallen hotel The Last Resort through a series of pictures presented during the closing credits.
Abilities[]
- Goobs can turn invisible for a short period of time.
- Able to punch Luigi.
- Using a shield, etc., Goobs can perform a whirling spin attack.
- Goobs can block light with an object or shield.
- They can use objects, like cue sticks (with a cue stick, a Goob can stab the player) as melee weapons.
- Goobs can pass through objects or walls, like many other ghosts.
- Similar to an Oozer, Goobs can also throw objects.
Variants[]
There are different versions of this ghost, wearing different clothes and armor depending on the room and boss battle they are in.
On Scarescraper mode, depending on what costume you or another player has (which floor theme that is activated), a Goob can also take on 1-2 forms specific to the floor.
- Shark Goob (B2 - Boilerworks & 12F - The Spectral Catch): While floating through the flooded sewers in the Boilerworks, Goobs in shaded goggles and shark fins will swim through the water in an attempt to pop Luigi's inner tube. They cannot be stunned or sucked up in this state. Once Luigi lowers the water level, these Goobs can be found floundering helplessly on the sewer floor. By removing their goggles, Luigi can flash them with the Strobulb and battle them as usual.
- Maid Goob (5F - RIP Suites): In front of Room 504 Luigi will find a cleaning cart, which approached will move to the gap between Room 506 and Room 507. If Luigi passes right in front of it, three Maid Goobs will appear for the first time from the same cart, breaking it in the process. If Luigi tries to exit Room 508 after meeting Chambrea, three Maid Goobs will surround him right at the door. They wear a white apron and headband, they can also use feather dusters to attack but are fought the same way as a normal Goob. More of this version can be found throughout the other floors.
- Twirling Goob (4F - The Great Stage): During the boss fight against Amadeus Wolfgeist, various versions of Goobs and Hammers will appear dancing ballet while Amadeus is playing the piano, Luigi needs to get rid of them first to make the battle proceed, avoiding their pirouetting attacks. The Goobs in this phase will wear pink tutus and green Strobulb-blocking masks for the second part of his battle, which need to be removed by the player to defeat them. Goobs and Hammers will appear after Luigi exits the floor, giving Luigi an additional challenge.
- Bellhop Goob (5F - RIP Suites): They will appear on several floors of the hotel, patrolling the hallways and rooms, sometimes with a flashlight in hand. This Goob wears a maroon hat and bowtie. After sending the Red Toad to E.Gadd from The Great Stage, Hellen Gravely will send two scared Bellhop Goobs after Luigi from her Master Suite.
- Knight Goob (6F - Castle MacFrights)
- Firefighter Goob (8F - Paranormal Productions): In the Studio 3: Fire Set, three Goobs dressed like firefighters will appear in scene to stop the flames with a Hammer acting as their fire truck. They will wear red firefighter helmets and an extinguisher. When trying to remove the helmet with a burst, it will only jump for a moment, Luigi must flash them right away before it falls again.
- Goobzilla (8F - Paranormal Productions): For the perfect movie, Director Morty will set up a stage where Luigi, as the protagonist, will have to face a Kaiju to stop its destruction in a fictional city. This Kaiju is in reality a Goob acting as the antagonist of the movie, wearing a Godzilla custom that can launch fireballs for the occasion, that's why Luigi must get rid of the suit to stop it. This will basically be the boss on the fifth floor, as Morty has no intention of hurting Luigi at all.
- Mummy Goob (10F - Tomb Suites): Inside the pyramid, sometimes Luigi will find mummies that will come out of sarcophagi. All these are actually ghosts in disguise, some of them Goobs, that Luigi will have to untangle from their fake bandages, making them fall first with a burst or a flash.
- Top Hat Goob (11F - Twisted Suites)
- Locker Room Goob (13F - Fitness Center)
- Shower Goob (13F - Fitness Center)
- Dancer Goob (14F - The Dance Hall): The first phase of DJ Phantasmagloria's boss fight has Luigi attempting to reclaim the 15F elevator button from a troupe of Goobs dressed like breakdancers, capable of attacking with various dance moves and passing the button amongst each other, Luigi will need to pay attention to their moves to know who has it. Once the ghost carrying the button is sucked up, the rest of them disappear as Phantasmagloria reclaims the button and attacks Luigi herself.

Trivia[]
- They bear resemblance to Greenies from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
- There is a miniature version of this ghost around the hotel, called Mini Goob. There are also Golden Goobs similar to Gold Greenies which drop more treasure, as well as Gem Goobs that drops a gem when defeated.
- At the beginning of the game, Luigi will look suspiciously at all Goobs disguised as humans if the player approaches them.
- Polterpup will also start sniffing them untrustworthy, sometimes he can even be caught shaking his head at the ghosts.
- Despite the fact that at the beginning of the game they talk to Luigi and the others without problem, once their true appearance is revealed, they no longer say a word through the game.
- When the player comes across DJ Phantasmagloria, they will see goobs dressed as little breakdancers. These goobs are different from their relatives because of their "legs", similar to the human costumes they're wearing at the intro of the game but with free movement and no actual shoes.
