Greenie   Strong Greenie

Greenies are ghosts that first appear in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. They are the first ghosts that Luigi encounters in the game. They were originally helping Professor Elvin Gadd in his experiments with ghosts, but once the Dark Moon shattered, they turned on him.

Physical appearance[]

Greenies are averagely-sized green ghosts, with four, small green teeth in their mouth and have two tails. Before the Dark Moon was shattered, and after it was restored, Greenies have green eyes.

Personality traits[]

Greenies can be described as childish, playful and mischievous, even before the Dark Moon was shattered and after it was restored. Before it was shattered, Greenies are shown to be very helpful and co-operative, especially towards E. Gadd. Like with other ghosts during the Dark Moon's absence, Greenies became aggressive.

However, Greenies were not all aggressive unlike some other ghosts. They did, however, take pleasure in scaring and frightening Luigi, as well as hiding and stealing key objects from him.

Greenies are shown to work well with Slammers, as they are almost always seen together in formations, specifically ScareScraper. Although because the absence of the Dark Moon drove the ghosts mad, a Slammer was seen chewing on a Greenie before being calmed by the restored Dark Moon. It then hugged the Greenie, as a form of an apology.

Greenies seem to adore E. Gadd and helping him with his latest discoveries, as shown in the beginning. A trio of Greenies lifted E. Gadd and Luigi. Two of them even rode a bomb sled with the professor.

History[]

Dark Moon Quest[]

At the beginning of the game, several Greenies are shown helping E. Gadd with his latest inventions in the Lab. However, when King Boo destroys the Dark Moon, the ghosts become hostile, forcing E. Gadd to leave.

Two Greenies were hiding the Strobulb from Luigi, but the green-hatted plumber still manages to retrieve it. Later on, Luigi will fight several more Greenies.[1] A Greenie steals a key to open the Common Hall, but is captured by Luigi.[2]. Greenies arm themselves with kitchen utensils.[3], and later on, they can equip themselves with sunglasses.[4] One of them also steals the Dark-Light Device, but are captured by Luigi.[4]

They are capable of equipping themselves with shovels and buckets (especially a beaker in The Pinwheel Gate). A Greenie encourages a Slammer to steal the last pinwheel vane, but quickly escapes temporarily after noticing Luigi.[5] Greenies are also one of the ghosts Luigi will fight if he chooses the wrong stairs in the Eerie Staircase[6].

After the Dark Moon was restored, a Greenie was being chewed by a Slammer in the Courtyard before regaining their sanities.

In the Old Clockworks, they are capable of creating sandstorms, disguising as mummies and being equipped with mallets, shields and Robombs.[7][8][9][10][11]

At one point, a Greenie is sleeping in the Clockmaker's Chambers with a ruby in its possession.[12] In Play Catch, three Greenies chase the Polterpup after eating the hour hand. These Greenies also use paranormal shields for the first time. [13] Greenies also assist the Strong Sneaker and Overset Possessor in Piece at Last and Showtime respectively.

In the Secret Mine, they are capable of being equipped with coal, wielding masks, crystals, hats and acting as hockey players. After Hit Rock Bottom, Greenies become powered up, transforming into Strong Greenies. One of them is also equipped with paranormal chains in Across the Chasm. Normal Greenies also assist the paranormal chained Strong Slammer.

After the Dark Moon was restored, a Greenie can be found in front of the mansion, becoming really cold after regaining its sanity.

In the Treacherous Mansion, Greenies/Strong Greenies are capable of being equipped with swords and shields, blue helmets, knight helmets and goggles. Strong Greenies in Front-Door Key animate suits of armor.

After Luigi defeats King Boo and rescues Mario, he and the Toads restore the Dark Moon piece, returning the ghosts back to their peaceful selves. 3 Greenies, a Slammer, a Hider, the Grouchy Possessor and the Polterpup join up with Luigi and co., and pose for a group photo.

ScareScraper[]

In the ScareScraper, Greenies are the most common ghosts encountered. Most of its variants appear from the Dark Moon Quest, as well as new ones such as ones equipped with jack-o'-lanterns, watermelons and presents. However, Greenies only wield presents in Polterpup and Rush modes. Boss variants of Greenies appear in the ScareScraper, known as Bomb Brothers, which are two Greenies carrying large bombs. Normal or different variants of Greenies, alongside Strong Greenies, will assist other boss ghosts, which include Bomb Brothers, Beetle Whisperers and The Brain. Also in Polterpup and Rush modes, Greenies can sometimes be freed from paintings by using the Dark-Light Device.

Many Greenies make their appearance in the Gloomy Manor. Some equip themselves with weaponry, such as swords and shields and kitchen utensils. They also assist The Brain during his and Luigi's battle.

More Greenies appear in the Old Clockworks, trying to get in the way of Luigi's journey once more alongside other ghosts. Greenies, alongside other ghosts, try and prevent Luigi from closing in on the Gobber.

  • Robomb, coal, crystal, watermelon, jack-o'-lantern and birthday present: When equipped with either of these, these can be used to protect Luigi against Luigi's Strobulb, and can also be used to hit Luigi over his head.
  • Bucket, wielding mask, hat and helmet: When equipped with either of these, they can shield their faces against Luigi's Strobulb, as a result of not being able to see where they are going.
  • Shovels and Tiki spears: When equipped with either of these, Greenies can launch at Luigi with the weapon at hand.
  • Whirlwind: Greenies can create whirlwinds in the sand and are able to drag Luigi into it if he is near one.
