Grouchy Possessor | Harsh Possessor | Overset Possessor | Shrewd Possessor | Tough Possessor |
The Grouchy Possessor is the first boss in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, located in the Cellar of the Gloomy Manor. He is the first major boss of the game. The Grouchy Possessor has infinite HP.
Physical description[]
When not possessing the spider queen, the Grouchy Possessor is a large, white ghost (the same pallette as Polterpups) with a singular horn on his head. He also has a orange layer (the same pallette as Poltergeists), and a red layer (the same pallette as Slammers). Before the Dark Moon was shattered, and after it was restored, the Grouchy Possessor has dark gray eyes.
When possessing the spider queen, it is a large, purple spider, with four green eyes, and red abdomen and red and purple legs.
Personality traits[]
Not much is defined about the Grouchy Possessor's personality. Although, when the Dark Moon broke, like most other ghosts, the Grouchy Possessor acted hostile and aggressive. He also seemingly had intentions of trying to kill Luigi, as he showed no hesitation to try to crush him with his legs while possessing the spider queen.
After the Dark Moon was restored, the Grouchy Possessor was shown to be loving as most other ghosts, as he hugged some Greenies, a Slammer and a Hider. He is also shown to be playful, as he willingly let the Toad assistants ride on him.
History[]
Dark Moon Quest[]
During Luigi's time in the Gloomy Manor, he has noticed that some parts of the mansion, such as doors and pathways have been blocked off by spider webs, and more have been slowly appearing in after each mission. In Sticky Situation, the Gloomy Manor is now almost covered up with spider webs, and Luigi must destroy every single one. After doing so, he is pixelated back to the Bunker, and E. Gadd states that there is a powerful signal coming from the Cellar, and is unknown how it has been able to avoid the Parascope for so long.
In Confront the Source, Luigi is pixelated to the Lobby, and uses the key to open the elevator to go down to the Cellar, but violently crashes down into the Cellar, injuring Luigi. In the Cellar, he notices a large spider web, and after pulling the string of web, the Grouchy Possessor (possessing the spider queen) appears and almost crushes Luigi with his legs, commencing the battle.
Battle[]
To defeat the Grouchy Possessor, the main gimmick involves igniting web strings on fire through various puzzles. Luigi will need to blind the spider in order to retrieve the web string in each phase. Once the Grouchy Possessor is out of the spider, Luigi has five chances to capture it, or else the Possessor will return to the spider's body if not quick enough.
First phase[]
In the first phase, Luigi simply needs to pull the web string over to the suit of armor wielding a torch.
Second phase[]
In the second phase, Luigi needs to use either the Vacuum or Blow function on the Poltergust 5000 to spin a fan, to set a burnt web sack on fire, to free a suit of armor with a spear. Then, Luigi needs to pull the web sack and let the armor stab it. Then, spin the fan to set both web sacks on fire.
Final phase[]
In the final phase, Luigi needs to carry a loose web sack over to the suit of armor with a torch, then carry it over to another suit of armor wielding a torch, covered in large webs. During the journey back, pillars will fall, blocking some of Luigi's pathways. Then, Luigi needs to carry the web sack over to the nearer torch and set the large web on fire once more.
Aftermath[]
Upon capturing the Grouchy Possessor, he is sent to the Ghost Container and E. Gadd and Luigi clear the path open to the Haunted Towers.
After Luigi defeats King Boo, rescues Mario from his painting and reunites the six Dark Moon pieces with the five Toad assistants, the Dark Moon is restored, returning all the ghosts back to their friendly states. E. Gadd then uses a remote to release the ghosts from the Ghost Container. A few Greenies, a Slammer, a Hider, the Polterpup and the Grouchy Possessor unite with Luigi and co., and spend some time having fun before uniting for a group photo. The Grouchy Possessor is seen giving the Toad assistants a ride.
Powers and abilities[]
The Grouchy Possessor has a set of abilities that other ghosts do not, such as;
- Possession: The Grouchy Possessor can take control of nearby objects and gain new abilities. He uses this to take control of a living spider queen.
- Transmogrification: The Grouchy Possessor can alter the appearance of what he is possessing. He uses this to give the spider queen a more creepy and threatening look, such as a much larger appearance and green glowing eyes.
- Wall Climb: As a giant spider queen, the Grouchy Possessor can climb walls.
- Spider Web Creation: When possessing the spider queen, the Grouchy Possessor can create large spider webs that are very durable, and can only be destroyed with fire. This ability is also not required with the help of other spiders.
- Spider Summoning: When possessing the spider queen, the Grouchy Possessor can summon spiders to assist him in combat.
- Purple Goo: When possessing the spider queen, the Grouchy Possessor can shoot purple goo from his abdomen.
- Wall destruction: After each phase, the Grouchy Possessor as the spider queen can climb up the roof and charge through brick walls.
- Charge: When not possessing the spider queen, the Grouchy Possessor can summon a purple barrier around himself and charge at Luigi with great speed.
