The Haunted Towers is the second mansion that Luigi goes to in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon to find the third Dark Moon piece. This mansion has a greenhouse-like theme, which can be compared to the forest worlds of the mainstream Mario games. The mansion contains six floors and a basement, making it the tallest in the game. This is the first mansion to introduce Toad assistants.
Appearance[]
The Haunted Towers is a large property that's mostly two stone towers built flanking a giant tree. Due to the overgrowing plantlife and poor maintenance of the towers, they have gone into shocking conditions, having tree branches and vines grow through floors and sprout themselves everywhere. In the Rumpus Room, a dollhouse is found that could arguably be a display of what the towers used to look like before everything went into despair, as the window Luigi looks through seems to view into the doll house itself and is on the correct side of the towers. It's given from this that the giant tree possibly destroyed the middle section of the mansion, leaving the stone foundation of the two remaining sides left. Oddly enough, there is a graveyard behind the towers, and the giant tree itself is hollow.
Background[]
These towers were owned by the Three Sisters, and this is indicated by the three portraits of women in the Family Room showcasing the sisters as humans, as well as the inclusion of the Rumpus Room, and the West Bedroom with three beds. While the whole mansion is infested with plants, each towers' rooms are build around a different function. The left tower is more residential with living areas such listed as above and even a Rooftop Pool. The right tower is more focused around horticultural equipment, such as having a Gardener's Lab, a Seedling Laboratory. According to E. Gadd, all the power in the towers is supplied by water from the supply ontop the roof.
Dark Moon Quest[]
Luigi is pixelated to the Haunted Towers tasked with fixing the Hydro Generator to get the tower's electricity working again. Upon activating the Water Supply on the top of the eastern tower, he has to battle a Gobber, whom was revealed to have been clogging up the system.[1]
After fixing the water supply, E. Gadd was able to pinpoint the location of the Dark Moon piece at the top of the tree. In order to get to it however, Luigi has to recover five pinwheel vanes stolen from Hiders.[2]
Upon repairing the gate, Luigi makes his way up to the Hollow Tree, but the door suddenly shuts abruptly, leading Luigi to find a special key to open. On this way there, he runs into a Toad assistant and is forced to battle the Three Sisters in order to lead him to safety.[3]
E. Gadd retrieved a special image showcasing the location of the special key, at the Rooftop Pool, so Luigi makes his way there to retrieve the key.[4] However, it ends up being stolen from the Polterpup, forcing Luigi to return to the towers again to get it back.[5]
Luigi uses the key to open the door in the Hollow Tree, and walks up the Eerie Staircase to get to the Tree House, where the ghost-catching plumber must fight the Harsh Possessor, who has taken the form of a wooden staircase, for the third Dark Moon piece.[6]
Later, more ghosts begin infesting the towers, but are soon all cleared out by Luigi. Afterwards, he and E. Gadd turn their attention to their next loaction, the Old Clockworks.[7]

In-game description[]
- "These remarkable towers are built around a colossal tree. The original owners had a liking for gardening and exotic plants, which are now growing out of control!"
Trivia[]
- This is the only mansion that has it's own unique intro for each mission, although "Hostile Intrusion" re-uses the intro from "Doggone Key."
- There is evidence possibly suggesting that someone else owned the towers after the Three Sisters perished and prior to the events of the game, as there are many areas in the mansion that have particular refurbishments and maintenance, suggesting that someone was trying to repair the towers after their conditions became dangerous. This may have possibly just been Professor E. Gadd or his Toad assistants, as they have clearly visited all the mansions to set up the Pixelators, but whether said company had attempted to refurbish the towers, is unknown.
Cultural references[]
- The Haunted Towers shares similarities to the Fallen Crypt from Lock's Quest.
- Both of these areas are located within forests, and include a graveyard each.
- They are the biggest areas in their respective games. The Haunted Towers is the tallest and biggest "mansion", and the Fallen Crypt is the largest battlemap.
- At some point, the main character (Luigi and Lock) have to escort/protect a small-sized ally (Toad and Bluebit). Although, Lock actually has to protect Bluebit as his main objective for a few days, and at the beginning of the area too, Luigi only escorts Toad later on.
- These areas include bosses fought at or near the graveyards (The Three Sisters and the Phantom Ringleader).
- Finally, they introduce the last enemy types (Gobbers, Creepers and Sneakers, and Clockwork Phantoms) before introducing stronger variations of each enemy (Strengthened ghosts and Silver Clockworks) in the next locations (Old Clockworks and Ironfist Quarry).
