Hider | Strong Hider |
Hiders are ghosts that first appear in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and returning in Luigi's Mansion Arcade.
Appearance[]
Hiders appear as tall, slim ghosts with a pointed head. In their artwork, Hiders' bodies are colored cyan, and their tails are slim and curved, though in their in-game model, they are colored cobalt blue, and their tails are pointed and zigzag-shaped. Before the Dark Moon was shattered, and after it was restored, Hiders have cobalt blue eyes.
Abilities[]
Hiders have 15 HP, which makes them one of the weakest ghosts encountered, but use a few attacks against Luigi.
- Hiding: Hiders can hide in furniture that is not already occupied by another Hider.
- Throwing objects: While hiding in furniture, Hiders can throw various different objects at Luigi (see list of objects below), dealing 10 damage if successful.
- Stair possessing: Displayed in the Gloomy Manor, Hiders are capable of controlling a full set of stairs. This ability has been inherited by Greenies, Slammers, Sneakers and the Harsh Possessor in the Haunted Towers.
- Invisibility: Hiders can become invisible.
Artistic[]
- Art: Hiders are shown to have brilliant artistic skills.
- Dance: While not fully explained, Hiders are shown to have good dancing skills, as displayed in one of the illustrations during the game's credits.

History[]
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon[]
Dark Moon Quest[]
Hiders first appear in the Gloomy Manor, in the mission, Gear Up. When Luigi looks through the hole in the Secret Pocket, he can see two Hiders in the Studio, one painting and one posing. If Luigi tries to go upstairs and into the Master Hall in the Foyer, he'll slide down the stairs, revealing a Hider. Luigi needs to find and capture him to be able to progress. After Luigi enters the fireplace in the Study and into the Studio, the two Hiders spot Luigi and hide. They need to be captured to capture the Slammer located here.
In Visual Tricks, a Hider has possessed the stairs in the Foyer, and must be captured. This time, he'll be assisted by a Slammer and two more Hiders. Two more appear in the Kitchen, assisting two Greenies (one equipped with kitchen utensils).
4 Hiders may appear in Sticky Situation, located in either the Garage, Lobby, Study, Parlor, Mudroom, Studio, or the Dining Room.
Hiders will always appear in the bonus mission of the Gloomy Manor, Gradual Infiltration. Some appear in the Foyer with a Slammer and either a Greenie or another Hider. They will also appear in the Kitchen if selected, and two will appear with two Greenies (one equipped with kitchen utensils).
Hiders main and most notable role in the Haunted Towers is in the mission, The Pinwheel Gate, where five of them steal the pinwheel vanes, and they flee to the east tower, forcing Luigi to find and capture them all. One is located in the Gardener's Lab, but two sunglasses Greenies must be captured first. One is located in the Tool Shed, but a Slammer and two shovel Greenies must be captured first. One is located in the Garden, but a Gobber and two bucket Greenies must be captured first. One is located in the Seedling Laboratory, but two Greenies (one equipped with a beaker and one with sunglasses) must be captured first. Finally, one is located in the Conservatory, but three Slammers must be captured first.
In Pool Party, when Luigi checks the hole in the Solarium into the West Bedroom, he can see three Hiders in bed. The one in the middle wakes up, and hits the Hider on the left bed on the right with a pillow once. He rushes back to this bed, and the woken Hider looks at him, and he blames the Hider to the left. This makes the woken Hider angry, and he hits him on a pillow three times while the other Hider laughs. The Hider then goes back to sleep. The hit Hider looks that the far Hider, pretending to be asleep, then that Hider goes back to sleep. When Luigi enters the room, he needs to spin the fan to push the wall back, and Luigi sees the Hiders having a pillow fight. The middle one notices Luigi, but the others continue to hit him with pillows, then they soon spot Luigi and they all hide into beds. Luigi needs to pull of a sheet to reveal a Hider and capture him. If Luigi is not quick enough, the Hider will go back into bed, and the beds will switch around. Once a Hider is captured, Luigi needs to pay attention to which bed a Hider is hiding in. Once the final Hider has been captured, they will drop a key, allowing Luigi to access the West Hallway.
Hiders usually appear in Hostile Intrusion. One may appear in the West Bathroom with two Creepers, and two may appear in the West Bedroom with one Creeper if those rooms are selected.
In Underground Expedition, when Luigi checks some objects while underground, some bombs may come out, and after they explode, Luigi can hear a Hider laughing. When Luigi opens and gets pulled into the mummy coffin, he can see a Boo and a Hider with a holding a bomb. The Hider puts a bomb within a bin, and hides in another bin, and the Boo uses Spirit Balls to make them both invisible. This Hider is optional to capture, but once Luigi uncovers and checks the bin that the ghost was hiding in, he'll need to be captured.
Hiders may appear in Outlandish Interruption, appearing in the Drafting Office if selected, with two Greenies (one wearing goggles).
In the Secret Mine, in the mission Cold Case, when Luigi approaches the window in the Chalet while outside in the Chalet Approach, a Hider will draw a smiley face. If Luigi checks the window, he can see the Hider on a rocking chair. He then sees Luigi, and rides on the rocking chair backwards to expose money out of it, and almost falls off, but flies back onto the rocking chair and turns invisible again. When Luigi enters the Chalet, the Hider is shocked to see Luigi, and can be captured if Luigi reacts quickly enough. After that, another Hider and a Sneaker will appear, and must be captured to progress.
In Across the Chasm, a Strong Gobber, a Strong Greenie and a Strong Slammer in paranormal chains lock the access to the Gondola, and flee into different rooms. In the Basin, Luigi must reveal a hidden Robomb and stun the Strong Gobber. Before it can be captured, three Hiders will appear, and must be captured to capture the Strong Gobber and break the yellow chain. After Luigi captures the Strong Greenie and Strong Slammer in the Smuggler's Hideout and Chalet respectively and removes the green and red chains, Luigi can access the Gondola. If he uses the coal shooter to melt ice onto and tree, it will fall down, creating a bridgeway to a shaking door. Once Luigi crosses over and enters it, he'll enter a Bonus Challenge room. Luigi will have to play a snowball fight with three Hiders. Once a Hider has been hit, it will flee. The first one hit, the treasure chest will open some coins. Hitting the second one, the chest will open some Gold Bars. Hitting the third and final one, the chest will open up the Gem.
Hiders may appear in Severe Infestation. They may appear in the Basin with two Greenies (one as a hockey player and one with a hat).
Hiders only appear in the bonus mission of the Treacherous Mansion, Terrifying Invasion, due to being replaced by their stronger variants, Strong Hiders. They will always appear in the Study if selected, with a Sneaker and a Strong Greenie with sunglasses. They may also in the Nautical Exhibit with two Greenies (one with a helmet) and a Strong Slammer.
After Luigi defeats King Boo and frees his brother Mario, he reunites the Dark Moon pieces with the Toads, making it whole once again, restoring the ghosts back to their peaceful states once again and regain sanity. After E. Gadd releases all the ghosts from the Ghost Container, three Greenies, a Slammer, a Hider, the Polterpup and the Grouchy Possessor join up with Luigi and Co., having some fun together before grouping up for a group photo. In the game's credits, the second scene shows Luigi, E. Gadd, a Hider and a Greenie dancing.
ScareScraper[]
In ScareScraper, Hiders appear as uncommon ghosts. Hiders usually appear with Creepers and different variations of Greenies. If the Luigis fight a Creeper Launcher or its variations, Hiders are one of the ghosts to aid them, as well as Slammers and the small Creepers created by the Creeper Launcher and its variations.
Professor E. Gadd's Research Journal[]
Hiders make an appearance in Professor E. Gadd's Research Journal. As E. Gadd was examining ghost energy from it, it scared E. Gadd while he was drinking Lunoman Greenie coffee, causing it to spill into the ghost vial. The Hider was also seen standing beside Gooigi in another picture.
Non-canonical appearances[]
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS[]
In Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, a Hider makes an appearance as a trophy, alongside a Greenie, a Slammer and a Gobber.
Luigi's Mansion Arcade[]

Hiders return in Luigi's Mansion Arcade. Their behavior is identical to their Dark Moon counterparts.
Gloomy Manor[]
Hiders first appear in the Gloomy Manor, two are first encountered in the Bedroom, fought with two Greenies and a Slammer. If the alternate route to the Gloomy Manor is taken, which is the 2nd floor and the Kitchen, 5 Hiders appear in the Kitchen along with 5 Greenies (3 equipped with kitchen utensils) and a Slammer.
Treacherous Mansion[]
Hiders are absent in the Old Clockworks, due to being replaced by Strong Hiders. However, they reappear in the Treacherous Mansion, and their roles are more stronger than their appearance in the Treacherous Mansion in Dark Moon. In the first wave of the West Corridor, two are fought alongside three different Bomb Brothers variants (one equipped with a bucket) and a Beetle Whisperer variant. In the second wave of ghosts, a Hider appears with a Primordial Goo variant, with two Bomb Brothers and one Beetle Whisperer of the same series as Primordial Goo, a Strong Hider, three Strong Greenies and a Strong Slammer.

Biographies[]
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon[]
- Ghost Container description
- "These clever fellows love playing hide-and-seek. A bit impatient, though, so if you take too long to find them, they'll start throwing things at you! Stay on your toes!"
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon website[]
- "Hiders are such obnoxious and cowardly creeps. They love to hide behind furniture, pelting you with objects as you walk by."
Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS[]
- "Despite Luigi's crippling fear of...well, everything, Professor E. Gadd ropes him into taking care of some unruly ghosts. Here we have four types: the small green ones are Greenies, the angry-looking red ones are Slammers, the thin blue ones are Hiders, and the big yellow ones are Gobbers. What appropriate names!"
Trivia[]
- Hiders are comparable to Poltergeists in a few ways.
- They have the ability to throw objects at Luigi.
- Also, the sound effects used when they throw objects are the same.
- They both have artistic skills.
- Hiders are capable of painting, as well as dancing[1], whilst Poltergeists are capable of playing the grand piano.
- Both of their strengthened variations (Strong Hider and Strong Poltergeist) are introduced in the Treacherous Mansion.
- Its also worth noting that in early development of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, it was going to be a Poltergeist who controlled the stairs in the Foyer. However, in the final build, it was replaced with a Hider.
- They have the ability to throw objects at Luigi.
- Hiders are the only normal ghosts to not have boss variations in ScareScraper.
- In the Gloomy Manor's Studio, a Hider paints a Hider with angry-looking eyes and a black mustache on a canvas for a humorous look. This also appears in the Dungeon Cells of the Treacherous Mansion, as well as the ScareScraper. Only in the ScareScraper, the canvas can be interacted with.
- In Luigi's Mansion Arcade, for unknown reasons, Hiders make the same sound effects as Greenies as they are being vacuumed up. This is the same case for Strong Hiders.
- Oozers from Luigi's Mansion 3, are Hiders' successors, as they both behave in the same manner. However, there are a few differences.
- Oozers are more aggressive comparable to Hiders.
- Oozers are able to throw multiple objects at one time at Luigi.
- Oozers don't always hide in furniture to attack Luigi.
