King MacFrights is a boss in Luigi's Mansion 3. He makes his home in Castle MacFrights, which is a medieval area on the sixth floor. Luigi fights him so he can get the seventh floor's elevator button.
History[]
When Luigi enters Castle MacFrights, he sees the king himself with two Goobs that are playing some sort of brass bugles, making a grand entrance. King MacFrights then taunts Luigi as he has the seventh floor's elevator button in his possession. As Luigi makes his way through puzzles, Luigi finally confronts the king. Shocked and angered to see his appearance, King MacFrights takes control of a knight's armor on a horse, proceeding to attack Luigi.
Boss battle[]
King MacFrights rides on his horse throughout the arena & summon cannons shooting arrows, pointing at first at Luigi, then flies in a straight line. He then charges Luigi, who has to dodge. Luigi must stun him with a Strobulb flash as Professor Elvin Gadd advises. When he is stunned, King MacFrights will retreat into his armor - literally - then he must then be hit by a slam. Luigi must fire a plunger at the king's armor, then slam the king's body around. Once this is done three times, King MacFrights will then attack with his sword. His shield also blocks the plungers & Strobulb flashes. Luigi must flash the king's eyes to stun him after the attack, then try to capture the boss. King MacFrights has 200 hit points. When defeated, he tries to jam the Poltergust G-00 with his sword, but it backfires on him. During the battle, whenever MacFrights loses his balance or gets tired, Luigi takes advantage of this to try to pull him into the Poltergust G-00 and slam him repeatedly. When defeated, he'll use his sword to try to escape only to be sucked in, then confetti and streamers will shoot out of the towers, leaving Luigi with the seventh floor's elevator button.
Information[]
Physical description[]
King MacFrights is a Scottish, medium brown ghost, dressed as a king. He has yellow eyes and mouth, red eyebrows, mustache, and beard, and wears a golden crown on his head, complete with red jewels. He appears to have ginger hair. He has an orange misty glow around his entire body.
Powers and abilities[]
Arrow Summon: He raises his jousting lance to summon arrows pointing at Luigi.
Spin: After breaking his armor & horse, he swings at Luigi with a shortened sword & an indestructible shield.
Personality traits[]
King MacFrights is an outgoing, eager and confident ghost, as he has the courage to taunt Luigi with his elevator button and gesture at him to come and get it. As he has two Goobs with him in Luigi's first encounter, he seems to be a bit bossy possibly because of his higher status as a king. Other ghosts seem to respect him and accept him as their leader.
In Luigi's battle with him, the cardboard "audience" appear to be cheering when King MacFrights manages to damage Luigi, and since he actually has an own cardboard audience as well as his face on a stone wall in a dungeon (eyes following only Luigi), he seems to be a bit arrogant. He loves to joust like a medieval knight, which also fits the theme of the floor perfectly.
When Luigi manages to defeat him, he tries to stop himself from going in the Poltergust G-00 by putting his sword in the ground, which means he really doesn't want to see himself defeated.
Trivia[]
- King MacFrights was featured in the demo of Luigi's Mansion 3.
- It's interesting that King MacFrights is the only ghost that has the title 'King' aside from King Boo. But it's assumed that he still works for King Boo like the other ghosts.
- King MacFrights is similar to the Tough Possessor from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, in which they both take control of knight's armors in their battles.
- The way that King MacFrights swings his sword around is similar to Chef Soulfflé and reminiscent of the armed and shielded Greenies from Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. This is even more reminiscent with the Greenies equipped with swords and shields found in the Treacherous Mansion and ScareScraper in said game.
