Boos are a species of ghost that reappear once again in Luigi's Mansion 3. There are a total of 16 Boos to be found throughout The Last Resort (excluding King Boo and Boolossus).

With the exception of the Master Suite, there is one normal Boo located on each floor of the hotel. They appear after obtaining the floor's Elevator Button. The player will need to go to another floor and return to this one to find the Boo hiding in there, making sure to at least exit the elevator in this other floor before returning to the one with the Boo.

Collecting all Boos will grant the player the "Captured All Boos" Achievement, unlocking the Flashlight Type-B for the Poltergust G-00. This type of Flashlight works exactly the same way as the other, but will shine a light with a Boo face design at the end of it.

To find and catch Boos, the player must first obtain a new feature to track Boos with Gooigi. This will be available once the fourth Elevator Button to The Great Stage has been obtained after defeating Chef Soulfflé.

Once the new button is installed, E. Gadd will tell Luigi about stopping by the Lab to show him something. The next time the player goes to the Lab, E. Gadd will show the new Shopping Network to Luigi and install the new feature on the Poltergust G-00, and once outside the Garage, the first Boo, Boosement, will be introduced to the player.

Tracking[]

In Luigi's Mansion 3, the Boos will hide in different rooms and objects. To find them, the player must use Gooigi's ability to track all of them.

Gooigi's body is made of a material named Goo, this substance reacts to the frequency emitted by Boos, making vibrations when there is one close. These vibrations will appear when Luigi is close to a door that leads to the room where the Boo is hiding. When the player is in the right room, the music will change, and Gooigi will start to shake when a Boo is nearby to him, intensifying the closer he is to the ghost.

if Gooigi is still inside the Poltergust G-00, these vibrations will be notable in the player's remote, but can also be seen in screen. The visible green Goo in the Poltergust G-00 will begin to squirm alongside the weapon while showing glowing parts twirling inside. If all the Goo is outside in the form of Gooigi, he will begin to shake instead, but if a second player is playing as him, only their remote will give these signals. They will need to find the Boo in their own or give directions to their partner playing as Luigi.

If the player interacts with the incorrect object in the room where the Boo is at the moment, they will come out of their hiding place to make fun of Luigi for not finding them and then they will disappear completely, leaving between two and four Bats to attack Luigi in the process. The player just needs to go to another room of the same floor so that the Boo can hide somewhere else. This sequence will be repeated on the floor until the white ghost is successfully found and captured. It's possible that Boos might hide in different rooms or areas in order if the player miss several times.

It won't count as failure if the player interacts with one of the objects in the room that are not part of the possible hiding places for the Boo or are not part of the same area.

If the player has difficulties finding the exact location of the Boo, is recommended to put the Switch remotes close to their ears to listen to the sounds that these vibrations make.

Some Boos will make new props appear in the rooms to be able to hide there too. After their capture, some rooms will go back to how they were before, while others will continue to have these new objects. No other ghosts will appear in the room where the boo is either.

The player can also purchase a Boo Finder on the Shopping Network to facilitate the search for Boos.

Capture[]

Once the ghost is found interacting with the furniture where they are hidden, the fight against them will begin. All the exits will be closed, and some rooms will then be covered with a mist that will help the player follow the movements of the Boo, even though the enemy has become invisible, leaving a track in the mist where they go.

Luigi will not only have to find and catch them, but he must also be prepared for their attacks. The Boos not only know how to make themselves invisible, but they will also attack Luigi if he takes too long to find them, using a direct spin attack in the direction where Luigi is or even dropping and throwing bombs.

The player then will have to reveal them using their Dark-Light Device, similar to Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. Once this is done, the Boos will reveal their tongues, is in this moment that Luigi will be able to trap them with his Poltergust G-00 and slam them on the floor, reducing 1 HP with every kick given, dropping Money in the process, mostly Coins and Gold Bars. They will also become visible while attacking our hero, Luigi can use this to his advantage.

Unlike previous entries, all normal Boos in Luigi's Mansion 3 have the same amount of HP, remaining fixed at 20 HP for all floors. Additionally, the precise location of Boos is randomized in differents rooms and hidding places.

This is a list of all normal Boos that appear in the game, in the order of ascending floor number. There are 16 Boos, which even if they look similar in appearance, each one of them have unique personalities and quotes, making a pun with their own names. Normally, they are also related to the floor they reside.

Both rooms are seen as one, that's why when failing the music will continue to sound, but the Boo will always go to the other side, making paintings appear after if they weren't there before.

To get there, the player must place Luigi and Gooigi on top of the unlit tiles to be able to use the Super Suction, and then inside the new room use the Strobulb on the first vinyl to make the stairs appear.

Trivia[]

  • Some of the Boos return from previous entries: GumBoo, Booigi, Boogie and Kung Boo are from Luigi's Mansion, while Boolldog is from the 3DS remake and Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
  • ComBooster, Boofuddler and Booccaneer are the only Boos that have a different dialogue intro in the part where they reveal their names when found or not found.
  • The names "Boosician" and "Boogie" might have been swapped accidentally, as their personalities and floors where they reside make more sense with the other's name despite both being related to music.
  • If the Poltergust G-00 suddenly starts to vibrate when close to a Boo, it will send a Morse code vibration on the Nintendo Switch controllers: (-... --- ---), which translates as "BOO".
  • If Luigi picks up a phone on one of the floors with a hidden Boo, on the other end of the line a Boo laugh would be heard. This will continue to happen until the Boo from that floor has been caught.
  • If Luigi takes too long to find the first Boo, E. Gadd will finally recommend using the Dark-Light Device, also commenting that Boos like to play hide and seek.
  • The Dance Hall and The Spectral Catch are the only floors that will make the Boos appear in two different areas of the same room, possibly due to the small number of rooms on these floors.
    • Interacting with an object in the room but in the other area where the Boo isn't at the moment will not count as an error for the player. The music and Poltergust reactions will work the same either way in all the room.
  • The mist will appear or not depending on the room where the Boo is fought.
    • In 1F - Grand Lobby, mist won't appear once the Boo is found, which will make the search more difficult as the room is so big. It's possible that this was done to make it more harder on purpose, considering that GumBoo only has one room to hide unlike in the other floors.
    • In the Dance Floor of the 14F - The Dance Hall, mist won't appear, since the room itself already contains mist, even if it is in less quantity that the one created by the Boos.
  • In the Waterworks of the B2 - Boilerworks, the Boo will make bats appear to attack Luigi when failing like the others, but being in the lower room, they will not be able to reach him.
  • In the 9F - Unnatural History Museum, after catching the Boo, entering the elevator will produce a bug that will cause all the paintings in the Elevator Hall to be uncovered and those in the Exhibit Hall to disappear completely.
