Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, known in Japan as Luigi Mansion 2 (ルイージマンション2 Ruīji Manshon Tsū), and in Europe, Australia and Hong Kong as Luigi's Mansion 2, is the sequel to Luigi's Mansion, a launch title for the Nintendo GameCube. This game was released for the Nintendo 3DS in late March 2013.
An arcade version of the game, Luigi's Mansion Arcade was first released in Japan in Summer 2015, and a successor of the game was released worldwide on Halloween in 2019.
At Nintendo Direct 2023, it was announced that a Nintendo Switch remaster of the game would be coming in 2024, one of the differences featuring graphical improvements.
Plot[]
In Evershade Valley, Professor Elvin Gadd is working on some new inventions with some friendly ghosts. However, King Boo appears and destroys the Dark Moon, causing the ghosts to become hostile and forcing the professor to evacuate.
He then tasks Luigi to help him capture ghosts once more, equipped with the newly-built Poltergust 5000, Dark-Light Device and Strobulb. Luigi will travel through 5 different mansions in search of the Dark Moon pieces, fighting swarms of Boos and ghosts and solving puzzles along his journey.
Near the end of the game, Luigi and E. Gadd figure out that King Boo is behind the cause of the events, and has captured Mario once more. With his brother on the line, Luigi eventually travels to the Paranormal Dimension to collect the final Dark Moon piece. Afterwards, he is dragged into King Boo's Illusion to fight the king of illusions himself.
Once he is defeated again, Luigi frees his brother, helps the Toads to complete the Dark Moon and restore the ghosts of Evershade Valley back to their peaceful selves. The ghosts spend a large amount of time hanging out with Luigi and co., whilst Luigi also comes to own a friendly ghost pup, Polterpup.
Gameplay[]
There is now an upgrade to the Poltergust 3000, the Poltergust 5000. Simply shining the flashlight on ghosts no longer stuns them, so Luigi must activate the Strobulb function on his new and improved vacuum, allowing Luigi to stun and vacuum up any ghosts that stand in his way. Also, Luigi gains the Dark-Light Device, which can make any invisible object visible once again. This time around, Luigi must travel through five different mansions, each with their own theme, solve puzzles along the way and defeat Possessors and retrieve Dark Moon pieces. To suit the game's handheld capabilities, instead on exploring the mansions in one fell swoop, it is now split up into missions, with 5 main missions and 1 boss battle in each mansion, (except for the Secret Mine, which only has 3 main missions and a boss battle).

| Ghosts | HP | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Greenie | 10 | American:They like to tinker with things they shouldn't and wield everyday objects as weapons. First, find a way to disarm them, then stun them with your flashlight when the time is right. European:They like to tinker with things they shouldn't and wield everyday objects as weapons. First, find a way to disarm them, then stun them with your torch when the time is right. |
| Strong Greenie | 50 | Whoever strengthened these bullies by putting them into the crystals had only one thing in mind: creating ghosts strong enough to crush rocks into dust with a single blow. |
| Gold Greenie | 20 | These greedy Greenies traded their slimy bodies for ones made of molten gold! Can't say I blame them. |
| Mummy | A Greenie or Strong Greenie, disguised as mummy. Mummies will charge at Luigi, but bumping into a wall causes their wrapping to loosen up. In this state, Luigi can suck up the loose wrapping to reveal the Greenie. | |
| Statue Armour Ghost | Statue Armour Ghosts are suits of armor possessed by Greenies. These will charge at Luigi and strike him with their weapon; if they miss, their weapon gets stuck in the ground. | |
| Slammer | 30 | American:They might look like ruthless brutes, but these tender fellers have a heart of gold under normal circumstances. Just don't let them give you a round of applause! European:They might look like ruthless brutes, but these ghosts usually have a heart of gold. Right now, though, they ARE ruthless brutes, so watch out for shockwaves when they clap! |
| Strong Slammer | 150 | A more powerful variant of the Slammer, enhanced by special crystals in the Secret Mine. A Strong Slammer in paranormal chains also appears as one of three mini-bosses in the third mission of Secret Mine. |
| Hider | 15 | These clever fellows love playing hide-and-seek. A bit impatient, though, so if you take too long to find them, they'll start throwing things at you! Stay on your toes! |
| Strong Hider | 75 | Now that these ghosts have been augmented by the crystals, capturing them is even trickier. It's best to wait until they show themselves to stun them. |
| Gobber | 100 | American:Their appetite is...ah...formidable. With stomachs that lack physical boundaries, they won't hesitate to devour everything around them! Be wary of the puddles of...goo. European:Their appetite is formidable, and given that their stomachs have no physical boundaries, they just devour everything around them! Be wary of the puddles of goo. |
| Strong Gobber | 200 | American:These massive, disgusting ghosts can destroy an entire mansion before you can say "Criminy! That's gross!" Watch out for their flying goo, or you'll have a hard time capturing them. European:These massive, disgusting ghosts can destroy an entire mansion faster than you can say, "flying phelm". Watch out when they release their goo, or capturing them will be a nightmare. |
| Sneaker | 25 | These ghosts are swift and cunning. They love to turn invisible and sneak up behind the targets of their pranks, so use the Dark-Light Device to catch them in the act! |
| Strong Sneaker | 100 | This guy is trouble! He's tougher and meaner than a normal Sneaker, and all those marks on his body are bristling with power! |
| Creeper | - | American:These gooey ghosts just love to cuddle, and they'll never want to let you go. But after the Dark Moon broke apart, they forgot about the cuddling part. Watch out for them on floors and ceilings! European:These gooey ghosts love to cuddle and hold you tight. But when the Dark Moon broke apart, they forgot about the cuddling part. Watch out for them above and below! |
| Polterpup | - | I haven't come up with a name for this mischievous and adorable Polterpup yet. He's caused us a whole mess of trouble, but I think the playful tyke just wants someone to take him in. |
