Luigi's Mansion 2 HD is the remake of the original Nintendo 3DS game Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. It was released on June 27, 2024 on the Nintendo Switch.
Reception[]
So far, critics have put forward mostly positive reviews. The Metacritic score stands at 78 at the time of launch, indicating a generally favorable critical reception.
Differences from the 3DS version[]
Graphics[]
Compared to the original 3DS game, the Switch port is rendered in a higher poly count, as well as higher resolution textures. Some notorious differences can be seen in Luigi's character model, having fabric texture in his clothing, which were absent in the 3DS game.
The main menu features some visual changes like a blurred image of Gloomy Manor as the background of the save select screen instead of a solid color.
Soundtrack[]
The game's music plays at a better fidelity than it did in it's original release, however it hasn't been confirmed if it was re-recorded or if the files aren't as compressed as they could have been in the 3DS version.
Charles Martinet's (Luigi's and Mario's original voice actor) voice recordings are still used in this port despite it being released after Kevin Afghani's debut on the role of both Luigi and Mario, most likely due to it being a remake of a game where Martinet still voiced the characters.
The soundtrack hasn't been officially released. See the soundtrack wiki for more information.
Story and Gameplay[]
The main playable content from the original version, the main story and the ScareScraper, are present in the Switch remake without substantial changes. No additional story, game modes or any playable content were added to the newer release.
Most features related to the 3DS touchscreen were adapted rather than deleted, like the map being accessible trough a button on the controller similar to how it works on Luigi's Mansion 3.
