This article guideline will give an overview on how to structure and format our articles on the site to provide consistency and readability to all our editors and readers. Refer to this guideline whether you are new here or a long-time FANDOM editor.
Templates[]
Templates are used to better the look for the wiki overall. There are many different types of templates which must be used appropriately and correctly. Below is a brief overview on the most commonly used templates.
- Infoboxes are fact sheets that are always placed at the very top of the article. Information to list through the different sections are placed below the infobox image.
- Quotes are used to write down whatever the subject is saying. Generally, they are placed at the top alongside the infobox, though they can be placed in other sections if necessary.
- Notice templates are used to alert or inform users of the current conditioning of the article. There are tons of notice templates used, and most of them get placed at the top of the article. Some common notice templates include;
- The Stub template, which is used to mark an article as one which needs more information expanded on.
- The Image template is used to notify users that the article requires more images to be added.
- One final example is the Featured template, used to notify users that the article was or is currently a featured article on the home page.
- Navboxes provide links to related articles which are placed at the very bottom of the article. Make sure to use the correct navbox for the appropriate subject. For example, if editing an article in which its subject is from Luigi's Mansion 3, you would use the LM3 navbox.
Article sections[]
Articles utilize many different article sections, and the sections are used to separate appropriate information. The sections for each article can vary from time-to-time, so please make sure that you use the appropriate sections for each article. Below is a list of the common sections used throughout most articles, which will tie into our Articles types and formatting section below.
- Appearance is used to describe the physical appearance and traits of a character or ghost. This section should be at least five lines long for it to be considered for this section, but please avoid filler writing. Otherwise, the information should be included in the lead paragraph.
- Description is similar to Appearance, though this will be used to describe the appearance of collectible items, rooms, objects and non-ghost enemies/species. This section is used to list the in-game description for the Missions in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
- History will list chronological information of the subject. It is necessary to have all of the information listed in chronological order, and not the order in which the media was released in. For non-canon material, use the Noncanonstart and Noncanonend templates to contain in and close off the non-canon information.
- Personality traits is used to describe how a character's behavior and their different traits displayed throughout the games.
- Abilities lists all known abilites shown by the character. This section can also be attributed to objects or other miscellaneous content with known abilites. For character/ghost abilites, there should be the following sub-sections where applicable; Skillset, Powers, Other abilites and Weapons.
- Biographies is used to list official descriptions and bios of the subject(s) either in-game, from instruction booklets or official websites.
- Trivia is used to list any additional information or other interesting notations.
- Gallery is used to insert a selection of images relating to the subject. If galleries have 20 or more images, they may be moved to their own gallery page. Always remember to use this template to provide an easy-to-access link to the gallery page.
- References is used to list any references you may have used within the article. Use {{Reflist}} if any references have been used and always placed them above the Navbox(es) below.
