Blocking users is a form of protection for the wiki and users. It's necessary as it is currently the best method we have to make sure users that break our rules can't destroy our articles anymore or start fights with other users.

When an administrator realizes the problem, users will be warned or blocked according to the type of damage done, sometimes temporary and in extreme cases infinitely.

Before we block users, we warn them, unless the user in question has come to the wiki only to do harm purposely, in this case, they will be directly blocked without notice.

Here, we use codes to determine how major the situations are. the block length changes depending on what code it is in. All admins have to follow the exact mumber of warnings to give before blocking for a certain amount of time.

Codes

Code 1: Minor

This is the lowest level of offenses to commit at the wiki. The blocking lengths and notice formats will be listed in a table for each of these sections.

Offense Actions before blocking Blocking length
1st offense 2 reminders, 1 warning, 1 final warning before blocking 1 day block
2nd offense 1 reminder, 1 warning before blocking 1 week block
3rd offense 1 final warning before blocking 1 month block
4th offense 1 final warning before blocking 2 or 3 months
5th offense No notices, blocked immediately Permanent block

Code 1 violations

  • Adding Fanmade content: The wiki welcomes fanbase content, but they must not be placed onto articles. The wiki's content focuses on canon information 100%. If you wish to add fanmade content onto articles though, visit the Fansion Wiki instead.
  • Spam: You may be doing spam in the comments, but have no bad intentions of doing so. Regardless, please avoid doing so.
  • Making multiple posts in discussions: Please restrict yourself to making no more than at least 2 discussion posts within a single day.
  • Making more than 2 blog posts: Similarly, please avoid making more than 2 blog posts in a day.
Code 2: Average/Major

These offenses are generally more problematic but not just in the danger zone yet.

Offense Actions before blocking Blocking length
1st offense 1 reminder, 1 warning, 1 final warning 2 weeks
2nd offense 2 warnings 1 month
3rd offense 1 warning and a final warning 3 or 4 months
4th offense 1 final warning Permanent block

Code 2 violations

  • Starting Edit Wars: When one user tries to force their edit several times in one article despite being told the errors in their contribution and about why their edit doesn't follow the rules and manual of style.
  • Purposeless spamming: Spamming which is simply done purposely to harm the reputation of the wiki.
  • Advertising: Please do not advertise other wikis here. If you wish for other users to join your wiki, please do so on Community Central.
  • Creating blank pages: Please do not create blank pages. If the page is relevant to the Luigi's Mansion series, put some effort into it, or use the Stub template.
  • Swearing/using vulgar language: Please do not swear at the Mansionpedia. Keep all language clean and family-friendly, as we have young people that view this wiki, and we need to keep a clean and safe environment. Censoring is even worse too.
  • Badge Farming: Badge farming is when the user performs unnecessary and constant edits just to earn badges. This is very, very gradual because edit farming is the least harmful offense there is, given that it's not normally done with bad intentions by the users but if it's done frequently it can become a problem.
Code 3: Major

These offenses are just the first part of the danger zone. Breaking these offenses can put your reputation at the wiki in a lot of danger.

Offense Actions before blocking Blocking length
1st offense 1 warning, 1 final warning 30 days
2nd offense 2 warnings 60-90 days
3rd offense 1 final warning Permanent block

Code 3 violations

  • Ignoring messages: If someone messages you about a slight mistake you have made, don't ignore them, especially admins. Its incredibly rude and no one deserves to feel offended. Unless you inform us that you are having troubles with messages, you will be receiving warnings for ignoring important messages.
  • Bullying and Harassment: Please treat all users with respect, whether you are friends or not. Cyberbullying and harassing other users is NOT okay, and will not be tolerated. If we see users behaving inappropriately, or a user witnessing incidents and reports it to a administrator, we will take action, and do our best to resolve the issue. If it can't be resolved, we will have to issue blocks.
    • Hostility towards admins: Similarly, hostility towards adminis can be punishable by the admin's choice until the problem is sort out. If there is a disagreement with one of the administrators communicate the problem in a civilized way and calmly. If an appeal fails, your block may be extended and fighting back irrationally could extend it more. If you feel that anyone, including admins, is abusing their powers, please contact LuigiMaster41 or DrawnCatcher about the issue. If you can't edit in the Luigi's Mansion Wiki you can contact them in Community Central.
Code 4: Seriously Major

This is the real danger zone. Code 4 has the most serious violations that threaten to destroy the reputation of the wiki. It is highly important that these offenses are handled and dealt with immediately by using the longest possible block lengths and giving out the strictest warnings.

If you are lucky enough to recover from a permanent block, the consequences are still dire as you will be permanently backlashed from ever requesting to be a part of our staff team, unless you are willing to make in the efforts to make edits for the good of the wiki. You may also be prohibited from participating in any activities held by the wiki for around 1-2 months; which will be decided by the bureaucrats.

If you commit a serious offence uniunintentionally or if its not your first edits, like vandalism, then you may be lucky enough to withold a 2 month block. However, if most of these offenses are your first contributions to the wiki of if they become too much of a problem, we reserve the right to immediately skip to a permanent block, regardless if you have not been blocked prior.

Offense Actions before blocking Blocking length
1st offense 1 warning 2-3 months
2nd offense 1 final warning Permanent block

Code 4 violations

  • Vandalism: Vandalism occurs when a user edits pages just to destroy them on purpose. If the user has never been in the Mansionpedia before and comes only to start destroying several pages or all their edits are damages done, they will be directly blocked indefinitely. If instead a vandalization occurs because the user doesn't know the rules or the vandalism has happened in a specific time by that user for whatever reason, like a family member or friend logging into their account or because of a "dare" or trying to gain attention, administrators will try to see what has caused this to solve it.
  • Uploading/posting inappropriate content Do NOT upload content that is inappropriate, such as images/videos of nudity, violence, 16/mature rated games, etc. Additionally, do NOT post links to inappropriate sites, as well as links to pirated games.
  • Sockpuppetry: If you have been blocked for any reason, accept it, do not create alternate accounts, which are known as sockpuppets. This can make your block extend to infinite. However, this rule does not apply if you have aren't blocked, and have created a new account because you have forgotten your previous password.
  • Underage: Per Fandom's Terms of Use policies, all users have to be 13 (16 in certain countries) and over in order to be part of the community. If you reveal yourself to be under the legal age, you will have your account blocked until you turn 13. Regardless if you haven't broken any rules and have made good contributions to the wiki, your account still needs to be blocked for legal safety reasons until you reach the required age.

What happens when I am blocked?

If you are blocked, you are unable to edit our articles, contribute to the discussions, upload images/videos, edit your user page, etc. Admins can also choose whether or not to allow you to edit your own talk page. As a result, any votes you have made will be striked out (but will be removed once you come back). Once you return from your block however, you are disqualified from being nominated as a Mansion Builder for 30 days and you will not be allowed to participate in our activities for 2 weeks or until an admin says you can join. Furthermore, the chances of you requesting for user rights are low in terms of supporting votes, but you will not be allowed to request any user rights for good.

What to do if you are blocked?

When a user is blocked it's always for the better good on the wiki and even for the same user, so they can learn their mistakes, so try to accept the conditions and learn from the errors during the ban. Do not take hatred towards any of the administrators because of this, they only try to keep the wiki and users safe, including you.

If you really believe that you have been unfairly blocked or there has been a problem with your account, contact your blocking admin in the Community Central. Do not use this to insult the administrators or harass them here, if in the Community Central they see you performing this type of behavior, you could be globally blocked, which means that you will be blocked in all wikis.

Remember that all these warnings are necessary to keep the wiki safe and for the users to know when something that can bring problems has been done to prevent it in the future. If you receive one warning or block and you are not sure that you deserve it or don’t know the reason of this, you can contact the administrators in a polite and reasonable manner. If we see that there has been some kind of error, we will remove or lower them, but if you act aggressively and irrationally it’s very likely that they will be extended instead.

Guides to avoid being blocked

Thoroughly read through our site rules and policies to avoid being blocked from the site. The required policies/Guides to read are listed below.

Furthermore, please don't be afraid of contact DrawnCatcher, or possibly LuigiMaster41 if you have any issues, concerns or worries about being blocked and we will try and help find a solution.

Additionally, if you think there is something missing or you are scratching your head about certain violations which can cause blocks, we can help to address the concern and see what we can do.
