Making sure to follow this policy for any kind of edit is essential to keep this wiki as a proper and a good site for all users. If you decide to do some edit, small or big, make sure to read the following rules so you can realize the least amount of possible errors in the pages and keep it in good quality.

It's normal to commit any of these mistakes from time to time, but if any of these edits are repeated or even ends up destroying the pages (intentionally or unintentionally), the user in question will be warned so that they may be more careful.

This notice is not intended as a sanction, but rather as a friendly tip to keep the wiki clean between everyone. This changes if the user is editing with bad intentions and for vandalism, in this case they will be blocked for a period of time depending on their actions and behavior.

Keeping to the format

Please make sure to comply to the Manual of Style. This includes going by the general format and keeping the correct grammar, along with the correct tone and anything else.

This is more recommended to check out if you are going to create a new page and category or if you are going to do a big edit somewhere.

What to not include

Kids view this wiki, and so do important researchers, so do not include:

  • Any racist, homophobic, offensive slurs or any curses of any type. These type of edits will be really frowned upon and can lead to a block.
  • No emoticons, multi-character (Like ":3" or ">;[") or singular ("😃"). This removes the credibility and professionalism of the article, but can be used in the user profile, discussions, blogs and comments instead.
  • Your additions have to be formal and objective (No first-person, heavy slang, no heavy opinions or speculations without proof).

Forms of editing that are not allowed

Failing to comply to these rules will result in punishments and sometimes an instant block.

Vandalism

Vandalism is the use of editing for a bad purpose, like damaging the pages willfully. Vandalism of any kind is STRICTLY prohibited.

This wiki was made for a good purpose and made by several people cutting down their own free time to contribute to such a great project. Vandalism slows down the wiki's progress and takes unnecessary time away from other editors, apart from the fact that it is a form of contempt and disrespect for all those who have contributed to the page, and once discovered it will be cut down quickly followed by a warning or a ban.

What is considered vandalism is listed below as followed:

  • Mass deletion of content.
  • Replacing and/or adding content that is useless, offensive or inappropriate.
  • Wrong undo of an edit(s).
  • Creation of an offensive or inappropriate page.
  • Adding unnecessary and derogatory new categories.

If you see any kind of vandalization on an article, try to undo it as soon as possible or report it to one of the administrators. If a vandalizer begins to destroy several pages, notify an administrator so that they can block them quickly. If the vandalizer adds offensive or unnecessary pages or images, you can also add the template {{Delete}} in them so any admin can delete them later.

Edit Farming

Edit farming is the use of edits, most likely small, not very needed and consistently for the sole purpose of earning badges.

Albeit not as offensive as Vandalism, edit farming when abused is not taken kindly by this wiki. While moderate edit farming is fine, when it becomes a problem is when administrators have to take action. While we may not be able to take away your badges, we will be able to take away your ability to edit for much longer than edit farming can do, so we do not recommend continuing what you do after you receive a warning.

Possible offenses that are considered as edit farming:

  • Small edits repeatedly used, normally in the same pages.
  • Useless additions on different pages.
  • Replacing an old image with a new one that is basically the same.
  • Edit milking, which is doing five or more edits in the same article within a short span of time.

Edit Wars

Edit Wars occurs when two or more editors begin to argue between their own edits in the page, undoing what the other does over and over again not agreeing with what has been changed on the page, in some cases even using offensive phrases towards the other user in the description.

Try not to create edit wars. If you are going to undo something that is not vandalism, provide a logical reason for doing it instead of saying it in a derogatory way or without a description. If another user deletes what you have done, try to see where the errors are and the reasons why they decided to undo it instead of re-adding it again without reason. It's also possible to reach an agreement between the two by discussing it on the talk page.

Edit wars can appear sometimes, if you see one, try not to edit anything on that page for the moment to avoid being attacked by one of the editors arguing, and of course, don't join a side and start doing the same. When an edit war happens, the administrators will take the necessary actions to stop the conflict as soon as possible, This can lead to the article in question being temporarily protected from editing and in some cases will result in a block to one or some of the users who have started the conflict.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism is copying and pasting information from other sites. This form of editing is STRICTLY prohibited, and will not be tolerated. Some of our articles have information plagiarised from Super Mario Wiki. If you see any plagiarism, either report it to a administrator, or clean up the plagiarism once you see it. Any user caught plagiarising articles will receive a warning. You will also be disqualified from nominating featured articles for 3 weeks, even if you haven't participated. Continuing to plagiarise articles will result in a lengthy block. The block length determines how well you have been treating other users.

Basically, this rule is key; we must write our own articles, and avoid copying from others'.

Minor and major edits

Minor edits are used as a marker to help avoid conflict by those following the pages and also to list the edits. Wrongly marking edits can be frowned upon by some, mostly by those who block receiving minor edits on purpose, although it's not offensive.

To help avoid these situations, we have created a simple way to determine whether or not you should mark an edit as minor. If it classifies as any of the edits below, please mark it as minor:

  • Small content additions, like adding one sentence or less. This can be skipped if it's a new trivia point.
  • Typo changes.
  • Grammar changes.
  • Rewording.
  • Link edits.
  • Categories. Only if you enter the editor.
  • Adding or deleting templates.
  • Replacing an image.

However, if these things are changed widespread throughout the entire page, you should consider not marking it as a minor edit.

Describe what you changed

Like minor edits, each time the editor is entered, a box will also appear to describe the changes made. This is recommended to be filled in accordingly, since it will be what would appear to people in e-mails and notifications.

Even if summaries shouldn’t be used like normal comments, all the rules from the Luigi's Mansion Wiki:Discussions Policy will be applied here too.

To avoid any type of problem and help the other editors and followers, these things must be taken into account:

  • Like the other policies, don't add insults or offensive messages. You should not use this to attack others or create conflicts in any way either.
  • Try to make sure that the message contains the general idea of the edition somewhere, especially in big edits, minors are not that necessary.
  • The user can write a little text asking for help to other editors or responding to a previous one, but always respecting others and trying to add the changes made in some way.
  • Don't add spam or lengthen words and letters. If a single word has to many letters without separations, the emails received from the edit will break out of the screen.
  • Always be civil with others. If you change or undo an edit made by another person that was trying to help, do not mock the previous editor. This can especially scare new users, who will no longer help out in fear of being mocked or believing that they did something wrong.
