To help visitors and visually show elements related to the wiki as well as making it have a more personal touch, we use different images, videos, audios and screenshots related to the subject we are dealing with, in this case, the Luigi's Mansion series.
All these elements, whether added by us or by you, must comply with some rules so that there are no problems later or to keep the gallery clean.
What to include and not
We accept images, videos and audios that are added in the informative articles of the wiki as well as those that you are going to use yourself as long as they continue to comply with the rules.
What is prohibited to add in either of the two is any media that may show NSFW content or those with offensive or illegal material. Wherever it is used, it will be removed from there and from the wiki gallery. In this situation, the user will be warned and if the content is strong, even blocked.
Images
Images, photos or pictures that will be used in our articles or wiki, usually screenshots or artwork of the games. Make sure the images are official when adding them and that they are also related to the page in some way.
All of these are copyrighted, but can always be used here without fear if they are marked correctly. To learn more, see the "Templates" section below.
This is what you should avoid adding in articles:
- NSFW Content
- Images with offensive content
- Illegal material
- Non-related images: Do not add images that are not related to the page or even the wiki. If they can be used in another way, it's possible that they would be moved to other pages.
- Screenshots with watermarks: Such as direct captures from YouTube. They may be left at first but will be replaced over time. See Luigi's Mansion Wiki:Media Policy#Watermarks for more info.
- Low quality images: These will be replaced over time. See Luigi's Mansion Wiki:Media Policy#Image Quality for more info.
- Fanart (See Luigi's Mansion Wiki:Media Policy#Fanmade content for more info.)
- Memes
- Images edited unnecessarily: Like those that are official but are edited with emojis and text in them.
- Duplicated or similar images: Only replace an image if you have one of higher quality.
Personal Images
These Images can only be added in your profile, comments, talk page and blogs.
Here you have more freedom to add whatever you want, such as fanarts or images that don't have to be related to the wiki. Although you can also use the same ones from the articles.
This is the only thing we do not accept even here, and it will be removed:
- NSFW content
- Images with offensive content
- Illegal material
All those images that are not used anywhere and are not possible to use in our pages will be removed.
Image Quality
As noted above, its important to add high quality images to the wiki, to make it clear for all users. For Gamecube and 3DS, these screenshots are best preferred using capture cards. For Nintendo Switch, high quality or capture cards are preferred. You are also allowed to take YouTube screenshots for Gamecube and 3DS. However, make sure the quality is either 720p, 1080p or higher. Please don't take quality screenshots below 720p. We recommend and highly appreciate screenshots with 1080p quality or higher.
When making gifs, it is recommended to use YouTube videos, taken at a quality at 720 or above.
Here are some examples for some of the best, quality screenshots and gifs. If you're having trouble following the 3DS and Arcade examples, speak to LuigiMaster41. For Nintendo Switch images, contact our talented bureaucrat, DrawnCatcher!

Gifs
When uploading images, its important to know what is the best format. For screenshots, high quality .pngs are the best to use. Please don't upload .jpg screenshots, and please don't convert high quality .pngs to low quality .jpgs, or resize the image to the point where utility loses quality. We accept high quality .jpgs for Nintendo Switch screenshots and promotional media/artwork.
Watermarks
When possible, try not to upload screenshots with logos. These are known as watermarks. While this does not go against our policy, these screenshots are allowed, just not preferred, and if added to articles they'll need to be replaced eventually without watermarks. If you are unsure how to get non-watermark screenshots from YouTube, please speak to LuigiMaster41 on his talk page for assistance.
Fanmade content
The Mansionpedia welcomes fanmade content, but here's the kicker; they must not be placed onto articles, as this wiki supports 100% canon information. Fanmade images can be added onto userpages, blogs, discussions, etc. We also have an fanon wiki, the Fansion, so you can add your fanmade images wherever you like!
Templates
All users can contribute by adding images, but to avoid any copyright problem, we must add a template that indicates that these pictures will follow the required regulations. In some cases, more than one can be used.
If when publishing these images no template is added by the user, one of the administrators will add it for you, it can also be changed if it's not the correct one. Do not undo this addition, if you think that the image should be qualified in another way, contact the administrator who added it to reach an agreement.
Fairuse
All those images that contain copyright, this includes official art, official logos, artworks and renders, as well as any exportation from the game files, like sprites, textures, animations and 3D models.
All images of this type must contain the template {{Fairuse}}, which will look like this:
This image is a promotional photo, illustration, drawing or art of a copyrighted video game. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it, Nintendo. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia's page on fair use. |
VGscreenshot
Everything that is an screenshots of a video game, GIF created from a game scene or photo of a game system must be indicated with this template.
These are also copyrighted, since it is a capture of a console or video game that have copyright, including the characters in it. It does not matter who has taken the photograph, if it was made by you or if you found it on the internet, because the rule applies the same, so it must be indicated properly.
These images should contain the {{VGscreenshot}} template, which will look like this:
This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted computer or video game. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it, Nintendo. It is believed that the use of a limited number of web-resolution screenshots
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this screenshot might be copyright infringement. For more information, see Wikipedia's page on fair use. |
The Fairuse one could technically be also used here, but to classify them better in the wiki we created this one instead, so try to use this one if you can.
Self
All those images that have been created by you and you want people to know that it has been your creation, such as drawings.
These types of images are usually only for the community or for your own use, and adding the template is optional but recommended especially if you do not want anyone to appropriate your work and use it as if it were theirs or without your permission.
For this you just need to add the template {{Self}}, which will look like this:
This file was uploaded by the author or photographer. |
Users can also add the {{User-image}} template if they don't want or can't include any copyright to the uploaded images that they are using, mostly because these are not really of their own creation or they don't want their creation copyrighted.
For this the user needs to add {{User-image|[[User:UserName|UserName]]}}, replacing "UserName" with their user name in the wiki, but this template is not necessary to include if the user decides so:
Any user that is using the {{Self}} template can also use the {{User-image}} template if they want.
Videos
Official videos can be added to the wiki, such as soundtracks, trailers, interviews or demonstration videos made by the creators themselves, but gameplays, walkthroughs and guides are also accepted.
Here it's not necessary to add any type of template, since all videos added are embedded, which means that the copyright compliance by the person who uploaded that video to YouTube is assumed.
You can also add other videos to your profile and conversations if you comply with the rules as with the images.
What videos can I upload?
You can upload videos that pertain to the Luigi's Mansion series on articles. Do not upload any videos that include swearing or inappropriate content.
What videos must I not upload?
- Videos that contain mature content
- Videos that contain NSFW content
- Videos that contain content or pirated games or similar
- Videos containing strong/abusive language
- Videos that are meant for discrimination
- Unsafe content
If we catch you uploading ANY of these type of videos, you will be warned ONCE, and will receive a block ranging from 2 months to infinite, so be wary of this!
Audios
Almost all the audios on the wiki are exports from the game, which means that they must all have the template {{Fairuse}}.
Do not add illegally download audios. If you want to add a soundtrack or song, either on one of our pages or on your profile, it's recommended to use a YouTube video directly instead.
