Polterkitty is a ghost cat that appears in Luigi's Mansion 3, being the pet of Hellen Gravely, the owner of The Last Resort.

Appearance[]

Polterkitty is a purple cat ghost that has big blue eyes and also wears a golden necklace around her neck. She has a slim body and her ears curve. Polterkitty has three tails when Luigi meets her, but she will lose a tail after each battle with him.

Polterkitty also has the ability to transform into a much bigger and menacing version of herself with large claws.

Story[]

Polterkitty's origins are unknown, but she is the pet of Hellen Gravely, and thus Hellen sends her to steal Elevator Buttons from Luigi twice throughout the game.

When Luigi attempts to insert the 9F elevator button, Polterkitty will suddenly pop her head out in the place of the elevator button and will take it in her mouth. Luigi must then use the Dark-Light Device to track down Polterkitty by revealing her paw prints. Polterpup may also help Luigi find Polterkitty, if he is present. Once Luigi damages her enough, she will escape down to 7F - Garden Suites. Luigi will gain back the button to 9F once he damages Polterkitty more in 7F. Polterkitty flees after Luigi obtains the button.

The same general events occur once Luigi attempts to insert the 14F button, but this time Polterkitty will be fought on 13F, 12F, and 11F, escaping twice to previous floors. She will also be captured this time instead of being able to flee again.

Hellen Gravely mentions Polterkitty when Luigi enters Hellen's boss fight in a piece of dialogue.

Battle[]

Polterkitty is very careful in approaching. She can attack Luigi or Gooigi by transforming into a more aggressive form and sneaking up behind them when their back is facing Polterkitty, and then slashing them with her powerful claws. Polterkitty will run away if Luigi or Gooigi start facing her, unless she is right about to attack. Luigi or Gooigi must use this against their advantage to flash her with the Strobulb right before they get hit by the attack, then start sucking her with the Poltergust G-00. She cannot be flashed by the Strobulb otherwise, and instead will run away like if faced.

When on 11F, Polterkitty must be flashed twice, as when she would normally be stunned, Polterkitty will dodge to behind Luigi, and then quickly attack. Luigi must quickly turn around or set Gooigi in place to stun her.

Luigi must then use the Poltergust G-00 to suck one of her tails up, which unfortunately, she is immune to the suction due to the elevator floor button blocking the Poltergust G-00. So, Luigi must slam her onto the floor repeatedly to drain her HP to 1. When Polterkitty's HP is reduced to 1, she will lose one of her tails to the Poltergust G-00. The only exception to Polterkitty's HP being reduced to 1 is on 11F, in which, her HP is reduced to 0.

Abilities[]

  • Transformation: Polterkitty can transform into a much larger and powerful version of herself creature, and back to a small, cute form at will.
  • Intangibility: Polterkitty can pass through walls and leave an imprint in the process.
  • Claw Slash: Polterkitty can slash at Luigi with her long claws, dealing 20 HP of damage.
  • Strobulb Dodge: On 11F - Twisted Suites, Polterkitty can dodge the Strobulb by rolling to the side. After the dodge, she can then be affected by the Strobulb again.
  • Climbing: Polterkitty can climb almost any surface effortlessly.
  • Autotomy: Polterkitty has 3 tails, each with 80 HP. She can avoid capture once per tail (for each encounter) except for the last tail. It also seems that Polterkitty can regrow her tails over a certain amount of time.

Trivia[]

  • She was likely created by the game's developers to parallel Polterpup, as it creates the trope of dogs and cats being against each other as Polterpup is on Luigi's side while Polterkitty is on the villain's side.
  • She has the same trait of leaving behind ghostly paw prints as Polterpup.
  • The way Polterkitty attacks is similar to how some wild cats kill prey in real life.[1]
  • Once Polterkitty is captured, she appears nowhere in the ghost vault until Hellen Gravely is captured, in which she will run around in the same capsule as Hellen.
  • Polterkitty stealing the button for floor 9 is likely a reference to the common myth that cats have 9 lives.
  • Polterkitty could be based on Yo-Kai Mythology of the Nekomata, a cat ghost with multiple tails.
