Possessors are special ghosts found only in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, that has the power to possess anything they see. There are 5 of these ghosts total in the game, one in each mansion. They are also the main boss battle ghosts in the Dark Moon Quest. They have infinite healthpoints and three layers of skin, so players need to charge up their Poltergust 5000 to rip their skins off one by one. When they are captured, each of them drop a piece of the Dark Moon.
History[]
Dark Moon Quest[]
The Possessors showed up to Evershade Valley during the conflict of the Dark Moon's absence.[1] Each of them was given a Dark Moon piece to guard by King Boo.
Each Possessor controls objects in order to utilize their powers to protect their Dark Moon pieces from Luigi. These include spiders, staircases, clock towers, icy monster faces and suits of armor.
After Luigi defeats King Boo and restores the Dark Moon, all of the ghosts, including the Possessors, return to their peaceful selves. Only the Grouchy Possessor is seen at the epilogue, though.[2]
Description[]
Possessors are ghosts with the ability to possess whatever is around them, par their name, and gain new abilities that they cannot utilize normally. Once they have been exposed of their alternate forms, however, they can generate a purple barrier around them and charge at Luigi. E. Gadd claims that the longer the Possessors remain with the Dark Moon pieces, the stronger they become.[3]
Characteristics[]
Possessors appear as large ghosts, with a jaw and two visible tooths. Each Possessor has a set amount of horns on their head, with unique patterns.
Each Possessor has white, orange and dark red skins, with the white and orange skins acting as suits. Their skin and suits are very durable, as only a Power Surge charge can rip of a suit/vacuum in the Possessor.
During their battles, each respective Dark Moon piece sits inside the middle of the Possessor's body. The corrupted energy is also seen within the pieces.
Although this trait is only seen with the Grouchy Possessor, Possessors have dark gray eyes before the Dark Moon was shattered and after it was restored.

- The Possessors are referred to with he/him pronouns by Professor E. Gadd in their descriptions in the Vault.
- The first letters of each Possessor in the English versions of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon spell out the word, "GHOST", just like with the first letter of each mansion and bonus missions.
