The Secret Mine is the fourth area that Luigi goes to explore in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. It is the shortest mansion mission-wise, with only 3 main missions, a boss mission, and a bonus mission after capturing the Boos of the area. However the mansion makes it up for the main missions being longer than the others. This area is notable for introducing stronger forms of ghosts and E-Gates.
Appearance[]
Located in the highest part of the valley on a snowcapped mountain, the Secret Mine is an unassuming property that just appears to be a small chalet from the outside. There is actually a large system of abandoned mineshafts and caves beneath the surface, and because of its location, the entirety of the mine is flooded with ice and snow. The mine was set up by an unknown company, but they abandoned the project when ghosts started moving into the mine. The only entrance to the mine is the lift in the Chalet, which at first is hidden under a polar bear rug. The fact the lift is hidden might indicate that the mining property was secret and the chalet was just a cover up, seeing as there is no mining equipment on the ground floors. Behind the mine there is an enormous chasm that houses the Workshop on the other side, which is only accessible via the Gondola. There was smugglers hiding out at the bottom of the mine at some point, which also located red crystals that had strengthening abilities. The Boos were using the mine as a plant to forcefully power-up the ghosts of the valley. The weather in this area is known to get terrible, to the point E. Gadd can barely communicate with Luigi via the Dual Scream.
Dark Moon Quest[]
When Luigi explores the chalet, he finds a blue Toad assistant. After making their way through the mines and back to the Chalet, the Toad is pixelated back to the Bunker.[1]
This Toad reports to E. Gadd and Luigi that Boos have been using the crystals to strengthen the ghosts, gaining cracked-like marks all over their bodies and further enhancing their strength.[2]
When E. Gadd uses the Parascope to locate the fifth Dark Moon piece, Luigi tries to make his way to the Workshop, but is forced to capture the Ghost Brothers, three strengthened ghosts that are covered in paranormal chains.[3]
After making his way to the Workshop, Luigi confronts the Shrewd Possessor, and after defeating him whilst taking the form in a gigantic monster face of ice, Luigi gains the fifth Dark Moon piece, allowing E. Gadd and Luigi to access the final mansion, the Treacherous Mansion.[4] The Secret Mine becomes infested with more ghosts however, though they are soon cleared out.[5]
