Sneakers are ghosts that appear in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
Physical description[]
Sneakers are purplish-pink ghosts, sharing the same palette as Sister Herlinda. Sneakers almost always have a smug facial expression.
Personality traits[]
Sneakers appear to act sneaky, cool and confident, taking great pleasure in scaring their targets. During the time of the Dark Moon's absence, Sneakers became hostile alongside most of their fellow ghosts.
When the Dark Moon was restored, it is presumable that Sneakers became peaceful again, but they were not present in the game's epilogue or the credits illustrations.
Dark Moon Quest[]
Haunted Towers[]
Sneakers make their appearance in the Haunted Towers, in the fourth mission, "Pool Party." Two are seen the tridimensional security photo taken by the Toad assisted there in the Rooftop Pool, along with several Greenies and Boos, one being given the special key from the Crypt by a Boo, and one above the pool. When Luigi reaches the Rooftop Pool and collects the special key, a Sneaker appears and scares Luigi, stealing the key. Once it is captured, Luigi has to capture three more.
In "Doggone Key," after Luigi enters the Garden, looking for the Polterpup who has eaten the special key and tries to leave, three Sneakers scare Luigi and must be captured.
In "Tree Topping," Sneakers are one of the three ghosts that appear in the Eerie Staircase if Luigi picks the wrong staircase.
In "Hostile Intrusion," Sneakers may appear in the East Hallway, with two shovel Greenies and a Slammer, or in the Family Room with either a shovel Greenie and a Gobber, or a Slammer and a Greenie with sunglasses.
Old Clockworks[]
In "A Timely Entrance," in the Drafting Office, if Luigi spins the fan and tries to open the case behind the wall, a Sneaker scares him. When Luigi goes up to him, or flashes him, two more Sneakers appear.
In "Underground Expedition," in the Quarry after clearing out several waves of Greenies, after the sand has reached its highest point, three Sneakers will appear, which need to be captured.
In "Roundhouse Brawl," during the fight against the Ancient Poltergeist, 4 Sneakers support him, scaring Luigi when he is vacuuming up the Ancient Poltergeist.
In "Showtime," a Sneaker appears in the tridimensional security photo taken by the yellow Toad assistant in the Movements, along with a Greenie, a Slammer, the Overset Possessor and several Boos. During Luigi's fight against the Overset Possessor, at 06:00, three Sneakers appear. At 12:00, one Sneaker appears with two Greenies (one with a mallet and shield), two Robombs, five Beetles and a Slammer.
In "Outlandish Interruption," Sneakers sometimes appear in the Warehouse with Greenies and a Slammer, in the Workshop with Greenies, in the Clock Tower Gate with Greenies and Mummies, or the Container Yard with Greenies and Slammers.
Secret Mine[]
In "Cold Case," when Luigi enters the Chalet, and captures a Hider that was relaxing on the rocking chair, he'll have to capture another Hider and a Sneaker. Two Sneakers also appear in the Basin playing around. When they are vacuumed, another Sneaker appears and scares Luigi.
In "Hit Rock Bottom," a Sneaker is seen trapped in a red crystal alongside a Slammer and a Greenie by Boos in the Crystal Quarry, via the tridimensional security image taken by Blue Toad. In the Smuggler's Hideout, if Luigi tries to melt the ice blocking the door, a Sneaker pops out of the window and scares Luigi, and brings two Greenies with him, (one with a blue or green paranormal shield). These ghosts aren't necessary to capture though, as the doors aren't locked. When Luigi reaches the Deep Hall and looks into the Cinder Mine, a Gold Greenie is seen taunting Luigi. When Luigi looks out, a Sneaker appears and trips Luigi. The Gold Greenie enters the room and he and the Sneaker laugh at Luigi, and both give each other a high-five. In the Crystal Quarry, the ghosts that are trapped in the crystals transform into their stronger variants.
In "Across the Chasm," in the Smuggler's Hideout, the Strong Greenie with Paranormal chains is located here, but three Sneakers must be captured before the Strong Greenie can be captured.
In "Severe Infestation," Sneakers may appear in the Drift Hall, with some Greenies and its stronger variant, Strong Sneakers.
Treacherous Mansion[]
Sneakers only appear in "Terrifying Invasion" in the Treacherous Mansion, as in all missions except for "Ambush Maneuver" and "Stop the Knightmare," they are replaced with Strong Sneakers. They usually appear in the Jungle Exhibit with Greenies, Strong Greenies with spears, and sometimes a Slammer. They may also appear in the Dark Age Exhibit, with some Strong Greenies with swords and shields, and sometimes a Slammer or a Strong Slammer, in the Ice Age Exhibit with several Greenies wearing helmets, in the West Corridor with some Greenies and Strong Sneakers, in the Archives, with some other Sneakers, and Greenies with sunglasses, and in the Study, with another Sneaker or a Hider, and a Strong Greenie with sunglasses.
ScareScraper[]
Sneakers also appear in ScareScraper. They are usually found in groups of 3 Greenies, one of which will be wearing sunglasses, or groups of two with two Greenies holding spiked plants or appear in trios by themselves. In Hard ScareScrapers, Sneakers may also appear with two Greenies and a Gobber, and on Expert or Endless ScareScrapers, Sneakers can also commonly appear with either Strong Greenies and Hiders, or Slammers and Creepers. Sneakers also aid Primordial Goo and its variations. A boss variation of the Sneaker, named Terrible Teleporters, are always fought in duos and have the ability to create vortex-like portals which can teleport any of the Luigis into another room.
Skills and abilities[]
Sneakers have 25 HP and use a small variety of attacks to use against Luigi.
Skills[]
- Shove: Sneakers can shove Luigi, dealing 20 damage if successful.
Abilities[]
- Scare: Sneakers main abilities are scaring Luigi, which disrupts his ability of vacuuming ghosts.
- Invisibility: Sneakers can render themselves invisible.
- Speed: Sometimes, when targeting or fleeing from Luigi, Sneakers can move at blinding speeds
- Stair controlling: Sneakers are capable of controlling sets of stairs, but this was only previewed in Tree Topping.
- Toad shield: When Toads are present, Sneakers can use them as shields to protect themselves from being stunned by Luigi's Strobulb.
- Paranormal shields: Only displayed in the ScareScraper, on Rush mode, on Expert difficultly, Sneakers can utilize paranormal shields of any color.
Weaknesses[]
- Casting trails/reflections: Even travelling or being idle whilst invisible, Sneakers can cast reflections on shiny materials such as glass or cast trails on the ground whenever there are puddles, rain, sand or snow.
- Dark-Light Device: Sneakers are especially weak to the Dark-Light Device, as it is able to reveal them when they are invisible.
Strategies and guides[]
Since Sneakers are quite an annoyance to deal with compared to other ghosts, here is the best strategy to deal with them.
Use the Dark-Light Device to reveal them or charge up the Strobulb. Sneakers are easy to detect as they leave trails in the rain, sand or snow, and mirrors can reveal invisible Sneakers. Sneakers usually come in trios, so it is always recommended to capture all of them at once.
However, Sneakers do come with other ghosts, such as different variations of Greenies. Usually, try to capture Sneakers first before dealing with other ghosts, to make their capture easier.
Finally, if Toads are present, Sneakers can pick them up and use them as shields against Luigi's Strobulb. Unlike Greenies equipped with objects such as Robombs, coal, etc., Sneakers do not lift Toads up, so Luigi needs to vacuum Toad off to be able to capture the ghost.

Creation and development[]
The concept for Sneakers appears to be inspired by the unused Basher ghosts during early development for the first Luigi's Mansion. They are both pink in color and they both scare Luigi, but the major differences are, that Luigi would be able to be immediately controllable after being scared, and upon being scared, he does not lose half of his current health. In fact, when Sneakers scare Luigi, he doesn't lose any health, unlike Bashers.
They are comparable to Slinkers, their successors, in Luigi's Mansion 3, as both have pinkish-purple color schemes, are able to scare Luigi from behind, and are able to use Toads as shields. Slinkers however, can grab Luigi and hound him, dealing damage to him over time until they are blown away. Slinkers can also suck Luigi into a portal and disguise them as mummies, whereas Sneakers cannot. It is worth noting, however, that Terrible Teleporters (boss varieties of Sneakers found in the ScareScraper) and their variations are able to create portals and can teleport any of the Luigis into another room if they get anywhere near the portals.
Etymology[]
The name for Sneakers was given by the fact that they sneak up on their targets. Their name is not to be confused with the type of shoe, sneaker.
