Luigi finds 5 Spirit Balls in the Haunted Towers.
Spirit Balls are ghostly entities that first appeared in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon and then later in Luigi's Mansion 3. They are floating ghost-like orbs with the ability to interact with objects around them. There are two variations of Spirit Balls; Blue Spirit Balls have the ability to turn objects invisible, while Purple Spirit Balls have the ability to bring objects to life.
Blue Spirit Balls[]
Blue Spirit Balls can make objects invisible by possessing the object or item. They can turn doors, haunted armor, or anything else that Luigi may need to open or cross to advance in the game. Boos are the ones who control Spirit Balls to try and trick Luigi to make it harder for him to accomplish things.
Luigi can capture them just by using your Poltergust 5000 to suck them up. If Luigi comes in contact with a Spirit Ball, he only loses 5 HP. To make objects or items reappear when there are no Spirit Balls around, Luigi needs to shine the Dark-Light Device at the object where there is supposed to be something there, the Spirit Balls will fly out and you have to suck them up in a certain amount of time. If Luigi doesn't catch all the Spirit Balls in time, they will go back into the object or item they were in and make it invisible again.
Purple Spirit Balls[]
Purple Spirit Balls are exclusive to Luigi's Mansion 3. They are very much like Blue Spirit Balls, except they have the ability to bring objects to life rather than turn them invisible. These objects include Possessed Treasure Chests and Possessed Garbage Bins. While possessed, these objects will be able to move around, and the Treasure Chests attempt to eat Luigi. In order to be defeated, the garbage bins must be shot with plungers so that they fall to the ground. Once on the ground, Luigi must use the Dark Light Device to make the balls come out so that he can suck them up. Meanwhile, the treasure chests must be hit with some kind of item shot by the poltergust (anything aside from the plunger) to stun it. Then, once again, Luigi must use the Dark Light Device to make the balls come out so that he can suck them up.
Trivia[]
- Boos mostly hide in objects that Spirit Balls made invisible.
- They do not appear in the Boo Canister or in the Ghost Container.
