Steward is the bellhop of the hotel The Last Resort and also the first boss ghost in the game Luigi's Mansion 3, fought in the Garage of the B1 - Basement floor to obtain the 1F and 5F Elevator Buttons.
History[]
Prologue[]
Steward is first encountered in the intro to the game where he is seen behind the front desk and then seen putting bags onto a cart. He is later encountered when Luigi escorts E. Gadd to the Basement, where he is seen unloading a cart. He will then have to be fought.
Boss battle[]
Steward will fight by picking up large trunks and then trying to drop them on Luigi. They deal 40 damage if they connect. When carrying a baggage, Steward becomes immune to the Strobulb until it is thrown. If the luggage hits a light, then the range reduces. The luggage can also be thrown out of his grip using Burst. Once thrown, Steward gets tired and does not move. Then, he is vulnerable and can be attacked. After either not getting flashed for a while or surviving after a flash and/or being sucked up, he travels to a nearby baggage and repeats. Done perfectly, Steward can be defeated in just two whole vacuums with at least 10 damage done before slamming.
Tip: after he breaks free of the suction, you can flash & suck him again.
Information[]
Physical description[]
Steward is a tall, skinny blue ghost with a standard bellhop uniform in maroon tones and a matching hat that has a gold line on the bottom. His appearance is very similar to Goobs, but then wears a bellhop uniform.
Disguised[]
When first seen during the intro of the game, he is wearing a mask and a long robe to hide the fact that he is a ghost. This coat is actually a much longer version of the uniform he wears as a ghost, even covering his whole body. It seems that the physical form of his clothes has a more reddish tone instead of maroon and the blue parts are more purple in comparison.
The mask he wears covering his entire face has a lavender color, with a creepy expression that shows his teeth in a forced smile. His eyebrows and bulging eyes are wide open, which have a really tiny black pupil. The nose of this mask is also rectangular.
His aura has disappeared, and his "skin" has a solid color instead of transparent. He has decided to cover his ghost hands with white gloves. Despite this, the mask strip can still be seen tied around his head, showing blue areas of his skin that he has not noticed are still visible.
Personality traits[]
Steward is shown normally with a nervous expression and movements, most likely paranoid about his job, seen when approached in the intro and encountered in the Basement.
He also appears to overwork himself, to the point of doing all the hard work that the hotel owner, Hellen Gravely, tells him to do without question. Despite this, he seems to be very kind to the protagonists in the intro and energetic in his actions despite his nervousness.
Within King Boo's evil plan, he had no position of attacking anyone, only ordered to act in front of the new guests as a human. He shows surprise after seeing that Luigi was still free, and is then forced to stop his work and attack him directly, not knowing what else to do.
Abilities[]
Invisibility: As a ghost, Steward can become invisible at will.
Luggage Throw: Steward can throw luggage at Luigi, dealing 40 HP of damage if successful.
Character Inspiration[]
Although it is clear Steward is based on a bellhop, he may even more so be based on 1930s bellhops, as the outfits they wore are almost identical to Steward’s.
Trivia[]
- There is a type of Goob dressed with a bellhop uniform, including a hat exactly like the one Steward is wearing.
- Steward, Chambrea, King Boo, and Hellen Gravely are the only boss ghosts seen in the prologue to the game.
- Steward and Chambrea are seen to be wearing a mask in the intro. Hellen Gravely is wearing sunglasses instead.
- It seems that Chambrea is wearing the same type of mask that Steward has.
- There is another character named Steward in Paper Mario: Sticker Star, who is the bellhop of The Enigmansion.
- Ironically, the mansion where he works becomes haunted by Boos, which Mario has to catch. This dynamic is very similar to the one used in the Luigi's Mansion series.
- The cart that he pushes before starting the battle has the mask and coat that he uses at the beginning of the game to disguise himself.
- The way that Steward throws luggage at Luigi is similar to how Poltergeists use telekinesis to throw objects at Luigi in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
- The Poltergeists in Quiet Please!, and Steward, serve as the first bosses in their respective games too.
