Gobber | Strong Gobber |
Strong Gobbers are a stronger variant of Gobbers in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
Physical description[]
Strong Gobbers are identical to Gobbers, but their bodies are a slightly darker shade of yellow, due to their yellow cracked-like marks all over their bodies as a result of being empowered by the crystals from the Secret Mine. Their tongues are also colored dark pink instead of dark yellow.
Dark Moon Quest[]
Secret Mine[]
Between Hit Rock Bottom and Across the Chasm[]
Between the events of Hit Rock Bottom and Across the Chasm, Gobbers were taken to the Crystal Quarry by the Boos to transform into their stronger variants. They were also given paranormal chains to wear in the process, along with a Strong Greenie and a Strong Slammer.
Strong Gobbers first appear in the Secret Mine, in the mission, Across the Chasm. One is seen with a Strong Greenie and a Strong Slammer ambushing Luigi before he can access the Gondola. With their paranormal chains, they lock the Gondola, forcing Luigi to find and capture them all. The Strong Gobber flees to the Basin. It's hidden within the room, so Luigi must use the Dark-Light Device on a hidden Robomb to reveal it. Before it can be captured, three Hiders must be dealt with first. Once they are captured, the Strong Gobber appears. Usually, Strong Gobbers have 200 HP, but due to the nature of the paranormal chains further enhancing the ghosts, this Strong Gobber has 300 HP.
Because of the HP boost from the Paranormal Chains, the Strong Gobber is the strongest Non-Boss Ghost in the game.
Treacherous Mansion[]
In the Treacherous Mansion, Strong Gobbers appear as uncommon ghosts, appearing in Paranormal Chaos and have a chance of appearing in Terrifying Invasion.
ScareScraper[]
In ScareScraper, Strong Gobbers only appear in the Expert or Endless ScareScrapers. Strong Gobbers are accompanied with two Greenies equipped with tiki spears, one Sneaker and either one Strong Hider or one Strong Greenie holding a roast turkey. Strong Gobbers are the rarest ghosts encountered in the Expert and Endless ScareScrapers. They also do not appear in Expert Rush ScareScrapers. Also, Strong Gobbers are never fought with their original amount of HP (200), as they will not appear in the first five floors of Expert ScareScrapers, or if playing Endless Hunter or Polterpup modes, they will make appearances once the Luigis reach the 51st floor.
Skills and abilities[]
Strong Gobbers have the same skills and abilities as normal Gobbers, but they now have 200 HP. They can also recover from the Strobulb flash quicker.
- Paranormal goo: Strong Gobbers can spit yellow paranormal goo from a distance, which will cause Luigi to slip and take 10 damage.
- Knockback: If Luigi gets too close to a Strong Gobber, it will slam its body into Luigi, dealing 20 damage.
- Yellow paranormal chains: Strong Gobbers are capable of creating paranormal chains to block entrances.
Strategies and guides[]
The best strategy to deal with Strong Gobbers is almost the same as dealing with regular Gobbers. When they appear, fill up the meter to the maximum charge, then let go, then quickly flash them before they can spit goo, then rinse and repeat. If Luigi has the Level 3 meter, three charges can easily finish them off. As long as they come alone, they are easy to capture. However, if they do appear with other ghosts (specifically in ScareScraper) it makes them a much bigger threat to deal with, so it is, at times, highly recommended to capture the ghosts accompanying the Strong Gobber before capturing it. Again, don't try to jump when they use their Paranormal Goo, just move out of the way.

Trivia[]
- Strong Gobbers are one out of the four Strengthened ghosts that is first fought with a different amount of their usual HP in the Dark Moon. These are a Strong Greenie, a Strong Slammer, and a Strong Sneaker.
- The difference is, however, is that unlike the Strong Sneaker in the Old Clockworks, the Strong Gobber in the Secret Mine actually has a reason for having a different amount of HP, as it was powered up by the paranormal chains.
- Also, unlike Strong Sneakers, only one Strong Gobber has a different amount of HP (300) in the Dark Moon Quest.
- The difference is, however, is that unlike the Strong Sneaker in the Old Clockworks, the Strong Gobber in the Secret Mine actually has a reason for having a different amount of HP, as it was powered up by the paranormal chains.
- Strong Gobbers are the only Strong ghost, as well as the only variation of Gobbers to not reappear in Luigi's Mansion Arcade. This excludes Sneakers and their variations, as the latter do not return in said game.
- In their Ghost Container description, one Strong Gobber can destroy any entire mansion. It is unknown if this is true or not, or unless it is referring to/foreshadowing for either Paranormal Chaos or Terrifying Invasion.
- Even without paranormal chains, Strong Gobbers are tied with having the third highest amount of HP of any normal ghost in the Luigi's Mansion (series), tied with Hammers and each floor-themed ScareScraper variants of Goobs and losing to floor-themed ScareScraper variants of Hammers and normal Hammers in the ScreamPark from Luigi's Mansion 3.
- Strong Poltergeists also have 200 HP, but the difference is, they are fought as minibosses, whereas regular Strong Gobbers are not.
