Poltergeist | Ancient Poltergeist | Strong Poltergeist | The Brain |
The Strong Poltergeist (known as Strong Boffin in British English versions) is a stronger variant of Poltergeists in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon.
Physical description
The Strong Poltergeist resemble regular Poltergeists, though this Poltergeist is yellow, due to its yellow cracked-like marks all over its body, as a result of being powered up by the crystals from the Secret Mine. In fact, it shares the same palette as Strong Gobbers. However, in the Space Exhibit, it is orange with light orange marks.
Dark Moon Quest
Prior to "A Train to Catch"
A Poltergeist was made stronger by Boos using the crystals from the Secret Mine. Under King Boo's command, the Strong Poltergeist infiltrated the Treacherous Mansion.
Treacherous Mansion
The Strong Poltergeist only appears as a mini boss during the events of "A Train to Catch" in the Treacherous Mansion. When Luigi puts the yellow book back in the bookcase in the Study, the Strong Poltergeist pushes it out. When Luigi checks in the hole, the Strong Poltergeist appears and scares Luigi, and flees with the book, into the Space Exhibit.
Battle
In the battle, the Strong Poltergeist uses telekinesis to throw stars at Luigi. However, Luigi can track his whereabouts without the need to use the Dark-Light Device, as the stars that the Poltergeist is near will light up purple. It's recommended to charge up the Strobulb to make it easier to be able to vacuum the Poltergeist. After he reaches less than 155 HP, the Poltergeist will rapidly spin the asteroid platform around, making Luigi lose his grip on him. The Poltergeist enters the giant asteroid and summons bombs and Beetles to attack Luigi. If Luigi is near a bomb, simply use the Blow on the Poltergust 5000. As the Poltergeist leaves the asteroid, try to get into a position to capture him before he can throw more stars. As he re-enters the asteroid after reaching less than 100 HP, he'll throw more bombs and Beetles. Once the Strong Poltergeist is captured, Luigi is transported back to the real Space Exhibit and retrieves the yellow book.
Powers and abilities
The Strong Poltergeist behaves in the same manner of regular Poltergeists but has much more powerful abilities that are worth mentioning.
- Telekinesis: Like all Poltergeists, the Strong Poltergeist uses telekinesis to throw objects at Luigi.
- Transportation: The Strong Poltergeist are capable of transporting others to its location, against their will.

In-game biographies
- Ghost Container description
- "As if they weren't enough trouble already, the crystals have augmented these brainy ghosts' telekinetic powers. I wouldn't want to run into this guy in a dark alley. That's for sure."
- "As if they weren't enough trouble already, the crystals have augmented these brainy ghosts' telekinetic powers. Knowledge really is power, eh?"
Trivia
- There is only one Strong Poltergeist that appears in the game. Despite this, Professor Elvin Gadd claims that more exist, as the description for the Strong Poltergeist uses plural terms instead of singular.
- This is also supported in British English localizations, where the title for them in E.Gadd's Vault is also pluralized, transforming the title to Strong Boffins.
