Toads, also known as the Mushroom People, are supporting characters in the Luigi's Mansion (series) and major characters in the original Mario series.
Luigi's Mansion[]
Toads are the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom, who constantly call on Mario and Luigi for help, whenever their princess, Peach, is captured or their kingdom and people are in trouble. Unfortunately, they greatly admire Mario over Luigi and even tend to underestimate the green clad hero.
In Luigi's Mansion, several Toads are in various areas of the mansion, they are here on a mission to save Mario from King Boo. But they are either too scared or don't know where to look, so they help Luigi instead so they can save Mario for them, or give them advice and tips about Mario's location or about the mansion itself.
The first Toad is located in The Foyer. The second is located on the Balcony (2F). The third is in the Washroom (1F), and the last Toad is located in the Courtyard.
If the Player uses the Game Boy Horror on Toad, Luigi says... "You know, I never noticed how lovely those red polka dots look on top!"
Quotes after saving[]
Note: The list below is incomplete. Please help us by expanding it.
If the player saves Toad, there are different things he will say:
- "Is there anything I can do?" (After turning on the lights in the Foyer)
- "Want to know more about Mario's Dropped items?" (Located in the Courtyard’s porta potty)
- "A Boo! There was a boo flying around here, Be extra careful!" (After unlocking the Boo switch in the Storage Room)
- "Oh! I'm so glad the power came back on!, Phew!" (After turning the power switch back on in the Breaker Room)
- "You're my hero!" (Located on the Balcony)
Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon[]
In Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon for the Nintendo 3DS, Toads are Professor E. Gadd's helpers by doing research inside of The Haunted Towers, Old Clockworks, Secret Mine, and Treacherous Mansion, but once the Dark Moon was shattered and all the ghosts went wild, E. Gadd could not get communication with them at all.
He was worried about them, so he sent Luigi to go find them. The goal of some missions in the game is to get the Toad out of the mansion and back to E. Gadd's Bunker. Toads are also afraid of ghosts and runs away from Luigi (The Player) when he sees one. This makes getting Toads out of the Mansion mini-puzzles within the game. Adding on to that, each Toad (besides the ones in Treacherous Mansion) have some other fear. The Toad in Haunted Towers refuses to go near water, the Toad in the Old Clockworks is terrified of large clock gears, and the Toad in the Secret Mine is too scared of ice to cross over the ice. To get though all these obstacles, Luigi has the power to suck up and then shoot Toad out of the Poltergust 5000. If Luigi encountered any Sneakers when transporting Toad to the Pixelator Screen, they would attempt to steal Toad away and use him as a shield.
Luigi's Mansion 3[]
In Luigi's Mansion 3, there are 3 Toads in the whole game.
Prologue[]
The three Toads appear in the Intro Cutscene and the majority of the prologue. They are shown to be driving the bus, carrying the luggage, and even falling into said luggage. At the end of the prologue, where the hotel turns into its dark form, they are shown to be captured by King Boo and stored into paintings.
Rescue[]
The Toad paintings are scattered around the hotel, guarded the only ghosts with the ability to possess objects. Once rescued and put into the elevator, a small Cutscene ensues where Luigi and toad are shown to be on a camera and Hellen Gravely is watching, snarling at the fact that her mushroomy enemy has been rescued. The three floors where the Toads are trapped and rescued are 4F - The Great Stage, 9F - Unnatural History Museum, and 12F - The Spectral Catch.
B2 Return Mission[]
Main Article Located In: B2 - Boilerworks.
Before being able to access the 12F Pirate Grotto and soon after the Beach (Where the boss fight ensues and the third and final toad is rescued), a giant ship blocks the way, too big and sturdy for any other way to proceed through. E. Gadd then calls, and says that he has a gadget for that, and then that he sent the red toad to get it. Luigi then returns to the lab.
When In the lab, E. Gadd gets worried that he hasn't come back yet and checks the camera that the Toad had on him. What he gets is unsettling news: The toad was originally carrying the part, but then he gets ambushed by a bunch of ghosts. After running and even more ghosts attacking him, he manages to climb up a pile of trash and on top of a divider to another side of the Room.
When Luigi gets there, what then happens is something very similar to the Toad Rescue missions from the previous game. Toad follows luigi around for the most part, and if lost (not shot) starts crying on the spot. When Luigi nears, he sounds happy and starts following him again. If a ghost or any other thing scares him, he starts to run around. He can also be sucked up and then shot at any direction, which is what is used to progress at the end of the return mission. Slinkers sometimes grab him and use him as a shield.
Scarescraper[]
In the Toad rescue mission of the ScareScraper, the players must save the hotel for 4 Toads hidden in different rooms of the hotel so they can bring them to the Pixelator screen.
